The Lake

I looked at the mess on my table and sighed. I began picking up the books one by one. Suddenly a picture fell out of one of the books. I picked it up and was immediately lost in a memory.

It was the day of my twentieth birthday when Peeta and I had gone to the lake. Peeta was shocked by the beauty that surrounded us and was painting the moment while I was worrying myself sick that he would have another episode but none came. After catching five rabbits I headed back to Peeta, to see the whole cabin decorated with wild flowers and colorful leaves.

Peeta was standing by the door with a bakery cake in his hand. His warm smile was enough to melt me but my heart stopped beating when he picked me up bridal style and carried me into the cabin. We cut my cake and I cried because finally I felt whole again. This was my and my Dad's place, Gale's place, Mum's place, Finnick's place, all the other tributes' place and Prim's place .I finally found the energy to let go but still remember them. I finally found my will to live. Peeta and I held each other while we said our goodbyes.

Twilight soon came sweeping in, weaving among the stars when Peeta stooped me on the edge of the lake. The moon light illuminated his face, made his hair look silver and eyes like the ocean on a clear day.

I swear the whole district could hear as my heart played drums when he got down on one knee in the mud. My emotions were a mixture of happiness, dread, anxiety but most of all anticipation and love.

"I know the Capitol has already tainted this but I want to do this right. Katniss I promise to be all you want, I promise to give you all the happiness heaven can afford, I want yours' to be the first face in the morning, for you to be my sun and moon, my huntress, my queen and my life. Katniss Everdeen, will you please give me the honour of calling you my wife?" His voice which had started with a slight stutter became confident and mixed with the night as he ended.

My heart was filled with so much joy, I thought it would burst and end this happy moment or someone will take it away but one look at Peeta's face and into those sincere eyes I forgot everything, the world ceased to exist and all that mattered was this boy- my boy with the bread.

My mind was blank but my lips formed only one word "Yes."

It was a picture of the lake, where one of the best moments in my – our – life was spent.
