The room spun as she watched Soul fall to the ground. She couldn't make sense of what happened. Everything was hazy and all she could hear was the ringing in her ears.
She screamed out is name, and rushed to his side.
Snapping back to proper vision, she quaked in fear. Before her was Soul, lying on the ground covered in blood. Her hands went to his shoulders, flipping him over and pulling him onto his lap.
Blood streamed down from his lip and his eyes were half shut.
The cuts on his face and neck were nothing compared to the the massive one over his chest.
"Soul, the cut is too big, I can't stop the bleeding!" she cried, trying to use her now blood soaked sweater to stop it.
Maka had never seen this much blood. It was enough to make her want to vomit.
She fumbled over him, letting her tears fall onto him.
"Maka, shh, it's okay..." Soul said quietly. "This is it..."
"N-no! This can't be it! I'm not letting you die!" she couldn't control her breathing.
Soul reached up, cupping her face with his hand. She could feel the blood on her face.
"It's okay, Maka." his eyelids were closing. He barely felt the pain in his chest. The pain from seeing Maka cry was beyond compare.
"No, Soul, keep your eyes open.. Stay with me..."
He tried not to pass out. He blinked, remembering the one thing that always calms Maka down.
Singing.
He always sang "You Are My Sunshine" to her when she was scared or sad. It calmed her nerves and upped her mood.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..." he started to sing.
His pulse rate was slow.
"You make me happy, when skies are gray..."
Maka's tears fell faster as she listened to his quiet shakey voice.
"You'll never know dear,"
Maka started singing with him.
"How much I love you.."
And that was it. His hand dropped from her face and hit the stone floor loud enough to make an echo. His eyelids were open by an inch.
Maka took her trembling hand and placed it over them, forcing them closed. Her entire body went numb as she felt Soul's cold skin.
This was it. No more stupid arguing. No more being comforted when she was scared. No more DWMA. No more Soul Eater.
Her head fell on to his chest, beggining to soak up his blood.
She closed her eyes slowly,
"Please don't take my sunshine away."
