Summary: He spent a lot of time convicing that girl to be his, and it was worth every second. ROMY!
Disclaimer: I asked Santa for Remy for Christmas but he just laughed at me.
He spent a year try to convince himself he wanted to join the X-Men just to get away from his family and that it had nothing to do with a fiery Southern Belle with the most stunning green eyes he'd ever seen and a temper to boot.
It took him two days to convince everyone, especially said Southern Belle, that he legitimately wanted to join the X-Men and that he had no ulterior motives.
Three months. It took him three months to convince her to go on one date with him. Three months of following her around, making sure they were partnered during training sessions and on missions, sneaking into her bedroom at night to talk, schemeing with Kitty, and three months of honesty. And even after all that, it was one date with no promise of another date and she refused to admit that she even liked him.
It took him another four months of "just one more date, but I'm not promising anything else" and "I don't like you, it's just easier to say yes than to say no and to have you following me around" before she admitted that she did infact like him and that she enjoyed their dates.
It was two more months after that to finally, after six months of dating, get her to admit that they are in a relationship, that she is his girlfriend and he is her boyfriend. He had to drag it out of her after she nearly punched a waitress that was flirting with him at the restuarant they were at. He pestered and poked at her until she screamed that he was her boyfriend and no other woman should be flirting with him.
It was took him two days after that to get her to go out with him again, back to the same restaurant, with the same waitress. This time, when she flirted he told her in no uncertain terms that he wasn't interested and didn't think it was very polite of her to come on to him in front of his girlfriend. Rogue had beemed at him, and the waitress traded tables with another girl.
It was another three months later that found him whispering those three little words to her one night as they sat at the edge of the lake on the mansion's grounds. She looked up at him startled before jumping out of his arms and literally flying away. She called the mansion before he made it home and said she needed a break and would keep in touch in case they needed her.
It took him six months to track her down to a small town in Kansas where she was working as a waitress and living in a tiny apartment above the restuarant.
Another week to get her to even talk to him.
Two weeks of questions before she exploded at him with a fierce "Because I love you too damn it!" and decided it was time to go home.
He waited another year to be certain she wasn't going to bolt again before he summoned up the courage to pop the question that had been driving him crazy since the moment he said "I love you" to her.
It only took her a second to jump into his arms and kiss him before yelling "yes!"
It was another six months before he watched her walk down the aisle towards him on Logan's arm, with Kurt performing the ceremony, and Storm keeping the weather perfect.
A year later was when she handed him a "World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt and smiled nervously as the news sunk in.
It only took him a second to pull her into his arms and kiss her breathlessly before dropping down to his knees and talking to the baby, their baby, growing inside of her.
It took them fifty years of marriage to find out that all good things come to an end, but when he followed her home six months later it only took them a moment to realize that all good things can start again, even if you have angel wings and devil eyes.
