A rather short story this one. My Aliens of London Alternatives fic.

Not the Only One

"I'm the only one on Planet Earth that knows that aliens and things exist!" Rose said, her voice filled with a smugness that comes from someone very young thinking they know everything but in fact knows nothing.

He had almost told her off for that, since he knew, rather well thank you very much, that she was lying through her teeth. But instead a crashing spaceship stopped what he was about to say.

He and Rose watched its descent, before it stopped in the Thames.

"Oh, it's just not fair!" Rose stated, and he couldn't help it, he laughed. He wasn't laughing at the situation, he was laughing at Rose. One second she's too busy complaining that she's the only one that knows aliens exist, and the next she's all pouty and put out because the rest of the world was going to catch up on her slight knowledge of other worlds.

Grabbing her hand, he rushed off with her by his side to see what they could find out about this new alien and their ship. He already knew some things. Slipstream engine and all that, but not who was driving it.

It was the who that interested him. It looked like the human race was about to get positive proof that aliens existed and he was here when it happened, on Earth, experiencing the moment. It was fantastic!

Too bad Rose didn't think so. She was too busy thinking that no one else should have the right to know that other beings exist out there.

He'll have to be careful in the future with her, because he could see it churning inside her now, just like Gwyneth had said to her. She'd been thinking of her dad more than ever lately. He just hoped to any deity that truly existed that she didn't ask him to take her there.

That could become quite a messy situation.

He didn't even know how her dad had died, since she hadn't bothered telling him that yet.

Things used to be so much simpler. Ah well, time to move one, he supposed.

And moving on for him meant the next adventure, and that had just arrived. Even if it was Rose by his side, he was sure he'd enjoy the ride as long as it lasted. And maybe, if he played his cards straight, Rose might truly learn something of interest.

Yet again, a girl who could abandon her mother to hide on the roof after only a few hours with her, after he had accidentally got the time wrong, may not be able to learn anything of true value.

Hopefully, Rose would grow out of that. That's what usually happened to humans who travelled with him.

Yes, he'd try and make Rose a better person.

The rest was up to her.

But first, Big Ben was broken, there was a downed ship in the Thames and the city roads were now gridlocked so no one could see. Fantastic. The action was happening just down the road and the only way he could see it for himself was the human way.

At least Jackie had a television set.

Too bad the annoying woman also had a lot of friends...
