He wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, to him it was juts another case - just another kid with another surgical problem. No big deal. He wasn't even going to mention it to her but that's one of the problems with dating your boss. She's waiting outside of the patient's room when he finishes giving the update after surgery.
It's a few quiet moments of chit chat before she even mentions it. She's got a bright smile and her blue eyes are twinkling as she makes him promise to meet in the resident's lounge before he goes to Joe's with Meredith and Addison.
A quick kiss is shared before he goes to round on his other patients. It's an hour and a half spent checking on kids and making jokes to cheer some of them up. He even spends an extra twenty minutes reading a bedtime story to Lily because her mom is stuck at work.
When he finally shows up she knows better than to ask and instead makes him sit down and close his eyes. He goes along with it, although grumbling all the while, waiting patiently. It's a count to three and a loud 'surprise' that probably wakes the hospital as she hands him his very own pair of heelies.
They're gray and blue, a match to her gray and purple. And he can't help the smile because she's so excited and it's contagious as he gives her a tight hug and a lingering kiss that promises more later when they're at home.
A little while later at Joe's bar, Meredith nor Addison bothers to mention the crazy smile on his face. They both know by now not to ask questions when it comes to either of the members of Team Hardcore.
