Alix puffed out her cheek; she and KIm weren't cute at all. Five year olds were legitimately big kids, and besides Alix and Kim weren't interested in each like that no matter how much cooing she heard from the adults in their life.

Big kids were smart, mature, and strong; Alix could attest to being all three or at least she'd tell anyone who asked that. Her report card was all 'A's and 'B's this semester, in part because she'd gotten Jalil to help her study for the big history test and in part because Kim had a really, really smart friend named Max that didn't mind showing them how to do the harder math problems.

Alix was a big kid regardless of whatever anyone said, and big kids were too big for kiddy crushes or playing with dolls or Barbies. Besides girly toys lacked the kind of adventure Alix liked, and explorer Barbies didn't exist as far as she'd seen.

So Alix was just not cute and with Kim, she definitely was not cute. "Alix, are you going to Kim's later?" Jalil lounged on his bed.

"Yeah," She grinned, "He said that he'd race me if Max isn't coming over later. When Max is there, it's kind of boring."

"Your words or his?" Jalil teased as he gently tapped her with his history magazine.

"Mine." Alix beamed, looking all the ways like a smug kid, proud of her words.

"Alright. I'm sure Max is fun to hang around with." Jalil shrugged, smile still in place.

"Of course you'd say that. He's a lot like you, smart and no fun." Alix hopped up and shot her older brother a look before she left the room, looking for something much more fun to do like go to Kim's and hang out with her best friend even though she well knew that few understood their friendship.

May be crushes weren't just for kids as she'd gladly claim, because if they worked like that, she would attest to may be the adults not being entirely wrong when they used to tell her that she and Kim were cute. They weren't cute, but she could accept that whole claim of them dating.

"What are you thinking about?" Kim asked her; his eyes flicking away from her like he couldn't just stare at her.

"Just us. When we were kids." Alix shrugged though she figured that fifteen was basically an adult anyway.

"What about it?" Kim asked her, eyes flittering back to her as if pulled on by a magnet.

"Just everyone said that we were cute together." Alix sighed, "I'm not cute, but we definitely did get together."

"You're not cute?" Kim's question drew her mind away, and just a glance towards him revealed his red face; Alix figured that she'd take it as a compliment or as good of a compliment as her boyfriend would ever give her anyway.

"Thanks. Want to race instead of talking about all the mushy stuff?" Racing with Kim or just hanging out with him was still better than those age old stuff that people figured that she'd end up liking anyway. Alix wasn't much for the 'mushy' stuff anyway.
