So this is a one-shot about Felicity and Barry while Barry is in a coma before Felicity has to return to Starling City. This is the first time I've written fanfiction so I hope you guys don't completely hate it.
Felicity was curled up in a large chair next to a hospital bed when the nurse came in and woke her. "Ms. Smoak, visiting hours are over."
Felicity Smoak groggily looked at the nurse before registering his words. Stumbling over her words awkwardly, she said, "Oh. Right. Yes, of course. I am SO sorry. I...fell asleep." Felicity had been scrambling around collecting all of her belongings, but stopped to look at her friend, well more than a friend, as she finished the sentence. A pained and worried expression crossed her features as she looked at him, then she visibly stiffened her back in an act of bravado. 'I have to keep it together,' she thought to herself.
"Ms. Smoak," the nurse gently said.
"Right, sorry." Felicity reached down and briefly grasped the man in the bed's hand. "Bye, Barry."
Barry Allen did not reply, he was lost somewhere in the sleep of the comatose.
Purse and tablet cradled in her arms, Felicity left the hospital room and made her way through the hospital to the first floor. In the weeks she had spent in Central City since the accident, she had become very familiar with Central City Memorial Hospital. She couldn't say where the nearest Starbucks was, but she knew exactly where everything in that hospital was.
She climbed into her small car and drove back to the hotel she was staying. It was much nicer than what she could have afforded, but her billionaire boss Oliver Queen had insisted on paying for her expenses while she was away from Starling City.
Starling City. She missed it. She missed Oliver. And she missed her work; not her position as executive secretary to Oliver Queen, CEO of Queen Consolidated. Felicity missed her job as personal IT wizard and crime fighting partner to Oliver Queen, the hooded vigilante of Starling City, The Arrow. She felt like she was making a difference, she was helping to make the city safe.
But right now, Felicity couldn't think about that. And she definitely couldn't think about Oliver. She needed to be here in Central City with Barry. Felicity thought back to her last conversation with him.
Oliver had just returned after fighting and killing Cyprus Gold, the man injected with the Mirakuru serum.
"Where's Barry?" Oliver asked.
"He went back to Central City. He wanted to see the particle accelerator turned on." Felicity replied. Just then her phone had rung and Barry's name had flashed on the screen.
In the course of their conversation, Barry told her that he would be waiting for her if she ever decided to give up on Oliver.
And now...she was doing the waiting instead. She may never get to talk to the intelligent forensic scientist again. Never get to know him better. Never get to go on that date he had promised.
Felicity sighed as she curled up on the plush bed and pulled up the start screen of her tablet. She clicked on the news feature and brought the day's headlines for Starling City. Felicity gasped.
"Oh God." She dropped her tablet on the bed and launched herself to her feet, getting dressed in the wrinkled clothes she had just taken off and throwing everything else into her suitcase. She ran out the door, her belongings haphazardly trailing along with her.
All that was left was her tablet on the bed opened to the news. A building burned brightly on the screen.
In moments, Felicty was back in the room long enough to grab the forgotten tech before once again making a mad dash for the train station and Starling City. And to Oliver.
