Disclaimer: I don't own Rent or Your Song by Elton John (from the musical Moulin Rouge, which I don't own either).

Mimi was sick of it. Roger was supposed to be here by now! Well, she was no longer waiting around.

Roger had been acting weird lately. He was rarely talking to her anymore. He was always out somewhere, he was coming home late, and he was barely talking to Mimi. He HAD to be cheating on her. Only a few weeks before, things between her and Roger couldn't be any better. She even thought he was going to propose! What the hell had she done wrong?! And NOW he had asked Mimi to meet him at this fancy resturaunt, which Roger probably couldn't even afford! It must have been a set up! He probably had another girl at the loft RIGHT now…she couldn't believe him. That was it.

She grabbed her purse off the table and started to walk away, when she heard,

My gift is my song

She knew that voice. She turned, and there was Roger, on the top of a small stage in a black tuxedo. He was staring right at her.

And this one's for you.

Roger smiled at Mimi and continued to sing.

And you can tell everybody
That this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is
Now you're in the world

Mimi had tears in her eyes. He was singing to her! Roger got off the stage and began to walk towards her.

Sat on the roof
And I kicked off the moss
Well some of these verses
Well they, they got me quite cross
But the sun's been kind
While I wrote this song
It's for people like you that
Keep it turned on
So excuse me for forgetting
But these things I do
You see I've forgotten if
They're green or they're blue

He stood in front of Mimi smiling down at her. She was crying now, and Roger had the biggest grin on his face.

Anyway the thing is
What I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes
I've ever seen

Roger stared straight into Mimi's eyes. He got down on one knee in front of Mimi and pulled a box out of his pocket.

And you can tell everybody
That this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is
Now you're in the world

Roger finished the song, and the restaurant broke out in applause. "Mimi Marquez, I've loved you since the moment you asked me to light your candle. There is no one I would rather spend the rest of my life with, however long that may be. I love you Mimi, please, do me the honor of being my wife." He opened the box to reveal a stunning diamond ring. All around the restaurant, people awed.

Mimi looked at Roger, and her heard swelled with undeniable love for him. "Of course!" she exclaimed. He took the ring out of the box and slipped it on Mimi's finger. He stood up and gave her a long, passionate kiss. The restaurant broke out in applause for the happy, now engaged, couple.

Mimi began to laugh. "What?" Roger asked.

"Well…it's just that," and Mimi broke into a fit of giggles. "I could just…Imagine…the look on your face…if…if I said…NO!" and Mimi burst into laughter.

Roger laughed at her and began to tickle Mimi. "Well…thank goodness you didn't!"

And the truth of the matter was, it was everything an engagement should have been.

A/N: This was very spur of the moment, but I love this song! I heard it and thought that it would be a perfect Engagement song!
Expect an update for "Like your dead girlfriend" soon, but I needed to post this up first )
