Lost Between the Shadows and the Light
Disclaimer: I own nothing. Got it? Good.
Author's Note: I wrote this after a sleepover, where I got about 20 minutes of sleep at the end of The Princess Bride. That might account for this...

To Satine, it seemed as if the entire world were black and white. You either lived in light or in shadows, you were good or you were evil. At least, it had hand been that way until Christian had entered her life. He had somehow thrown off the schematics of the world, flipping her reality and twisting her outlook.
Now, where there had once been shadow, there was brilliant light, and where once she had seen clearly, she was now lost in murky dimness. She felt almost dizzy around him. He blurred the lines that for so long had been so clear to her. Now she didn't even know where those lines had lain. All the world was changing, just because he had come into her life.
"How wonderful life is, now you're in the world." That had been his song, and how true it had been. Her world, once so strict and regulated, was now wonderfully topsy-turvy. She was falling headlong through life, with Christian tumbling along with her, holding her hand as together they faced they sometimes-frightening world of love.
Christian... sweet Christian... he was the one ray of pure light in her mixed up world. He was her guiding star, her lighthouse on a stormy day. When all the world was a blurry grayness, he could shine through it all with just a simple touch or a smile.
Sometimes, she felt lost between his light and the darkness of the sinful Moulin Rouge. She had been hopelessly trapped in the vortex of sin and lust, her heart slowly turning to utter blackness.
But now she was in love, a love so blindingly pure that it had slowly begun to redeem her lost soul.
But still, at time she was stuck between the darkness and the light, lost in a maze of good versus evil. Her lighthouse, her true love, was the only thing that could guide her away from the rocky crags of her former life. With Christian, she was safe from harm in the harbor of his arms.
There was only one thing she feared. She feared that her light would be taken away, that the bright bulb of his love would one day burn out. Because, truly, who could love a courtesan? She was nothing. Surely it couldn't last forever, could it?
And once her light was gone, she would be lost forever to the darkness, would wither away into nothing but another pathetic creature of the Underworld. That was the one thing she did not want to do. She did not want to lose her hold on the light. She didn't want to be trapped forever.
And so, here she was, lost in limbo somewhere between the shadowy darkness and the light. She didn't know how long it would last, but God help her, she would hang on as long as she could.
But on the horizon, the shadows were growing darker.
