Ave Maria

Hello darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence

(Simon and Garfunkel)

I make a point of soaking in the final minutes of every day on my apartment balcony in Shreveport, LA. Tonight is no different. Stretching my arms out to catch every drop of the last sunbeams on my skin I noticed that, no, something was different.
There's a man sitting on the roof of the building across from mine, his legs dangling off the side of the building, as if he were sitting on a curb instead of some eight story superstructure. A resident or visitor to Croix Royale Maison, he was no doubt rich or powerful-probably both. And when you're rich I guess you could afford to entertain delusions of invincibility. I looked away from the fool to focus on the last moments of the blazing sun dipping into the horizon. Regrettably, moments later some motion on the roof distracted me from my nightly indulgence yet again.
The apparent Tarzan was standing now. And he had company. With the inky blackness of dusk taking over, I could only see vague, shadowy figures, but their body language spoke volumes-they must be lovers. I glance away, blushing slightly at the intimacy of it all.
Oh hell, It's not like they can see me anyways. I looked back but the scene had morphed entirely. I blinked a few times to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me, but this was no illusion: one of the figures had a gun pulled on the other.
Without a moment's hesitation I made my way inside to call the police. A sudden loud crack echoed in the night, causing me to flinch. Whipping around in a panic, I brought my attention back the roof.

No one was there.

The man and woman were nowhere to be found but a cloud of gun smoke eerily floated where the figures once stood. I waited, searching for some sign-any sign of life. . . But there was none. There was only the perilous symphony of silence. . . And it was deafening.

Great big thanks to my awesome and amazing betas phoenix rose, young boho, Sarah white, and Rhiannonb. You guys helped me a great deal to make this preface into something that is just pure magnificence. I have many other stories in my arsenal that I would like to get out there, unfortunately this one has just seemed to flat line. I will probably work on it later on. Not anytime soon... maybe?

Any who... please review and I will be all the more excited then I am. Thanks for reading and BETAS you all especially mine ROCK REALLY HARD! thanks so much to everyone.

Also I wonder what everyone thinks of this story and who is it on the balcony across the street? Who's watching this scene? It's all so exciting not knowing right?
