Home Inspections : Sakaki

Chapter 1

Summer. A time for spending indoors, watching TV with the air conditioning on. Or maybe even sitting outside, enjoying the calm breeze that came by every few minutes whilst the distant sound of lawnmowers met your ears.

Ah yes, it was a relatively normal summer day. The sun was shining, the cicadas were buzzing… and Tomo was shouting.

"Summer Break Special: Home Inspections! Today, we're going to MISS SAKAKI'S!" A few of the surrounding birds took flight as the peace was disturbed by a certain wildcat. In front of her, Tomo held two colourful bits of card that had what she just said written on in markers. "YAY!" Tomo exclaimed lowering the cards and revealing a peace sign and an extremely excited looking face.

In the time that it had taken the circle of friends to get home from Chiyo's Summer home and the time it took for them all to go to sleep that night, Tomo had conjured up the idea that they had never continued her "Summer Break Home Inspections" series. Not being one to give up that easy, Tomo called everyone (except Sakaki) that they would be going to their quiet friend's house claiming that "The quiet ones are always hiding something!". Hence the reason why Tomo, Yomi, Chiyo, Kagura and Osaka were all stood in front of the train station boiling to death.

There was a moment of silence while Tomo still held the pose to no one in particular, the surrounding girls stared at her with either annoyance or dumbfound expressions. One bespectacled girl in particular sighed and tried to walk away yet again from her noisy best friend. She didn't succeed.

"Hey! C'mon, Yomi where you goin'? You're not gonna ditch me again, right?"

"I am if you're going to embarrass us like that. Do you even know where Sakaki lives?" Yomi muttered, pushing her fogged up glasses further up her nose. The question had also flashed through the rest of the girls minds, excluding Osaka of course. Kagura was the only one who knew where Sakaki lived and she wasn't going to give it up just to please Tomo.

"Um, Tomo? Do you think it's polite for us to just drop in on Miss Sakaki unannounced?" Chiyo squeaked out, twiddling with her fingers while stood next to a slightly irritated Kagura and oblivious Osaka. Tomo just replied with a low chuckle that slowly turned into a manic laugh of some sort.

"Oh, Chiyo-chan… you're too young to understand the mechanics of my mind-" "I'm not that young." "Whatever, as I was saying-"

"Tomo, I don't think anyone understands the mechanics of your mind…" Kagura and Yomi chorused .

The heat of the midday was getting to all of them, Yomi had already cleaned her glasses three times in the past half hour from all the mugginess in the air, not to mention the cicadas were making her nervous.

"Sigh, fine. Would you rather us to go to your house then?" Tomo smugly commented as Yomi went silent for a good 10 seconds. Yomi the turned to Kagura and walked swiftly over to her.

"Take us to Sakaki's. Now." Kagura stared at the suddenly fierce looking Yomi in front of her and silently nodded with her eyes wide. No one seemed to notice that the pieces of cards Tomo was holding previously, had now somehow vanished into thin air, but wherever they were, they were going to be left behind because the small group of girls had begun quickly walking towards Sakaki's house.
