Voodoo dolls and pins are supposed to cause you pain. It's a type of magic and Hermione knows all about magic. She's a witch and a brilliant one at that. Little dolls with stitches symbolizing those that you hate. Tiny little things and big pins and for those blissful moments she's the one in control.
She loves to hate because that's been here life story for the past seven years. The one people love hating.
Now Hermione inflicts the pain and it makes her feel powerful because even though knowledge is power and she has a lifetime supply of knowledge she's never felt much power until she saw Draco cry, exactly as she had.
But her plan backfired.
Because seeing him cry didn't make her pain go away, it just worsened it.
