"Elijah," Rebekah whined for the thousandth time, following her brother down the stairs with a frown. "If I take it now, I can be human when I dance with Matt tonight."

"No." Klaus shook his head as he stepped out of the kitchen. "If you do that, Silas will kill me."

The eldest of the three shook his head at his siblings, turning immediately to go back up to his room. "Rock-paper-scissors for it." He was just about fed up with his siblings' constant arguing, and it would be easier to escape if he got them distracted.

"You have to stay to make sure Nik doesn't cheat," Rebekah insisted, blocking his path.

So much for an escape.

"I'm going to cheat? It's just like her to be so self-center, Elijah; she doesn't deserve this cure."

He was beginning to wonder why he ever believed he'd be able to escape.

"I know how you play. It's not rock-paper-scissors-dagger."

Elijah didn't turn around to see how the argument was progressing, taking the rare opportunity to hurry up the stairs, the faint sound of Niklaus and Rebekah mumbling "rock-paper-scissors shoot!" following him.

He didn't dare leave his room until two hours later, making sure the small box containing the cure for vampirism was still hidden safely behind the box of daggers he'd confiscated from his brother.

"Best out of eight hundred and fifty three." Elijah frowned at the sound of his brother's voice, stepping out into the hallway. "Out of eight hundred and fifty five."

"You've already lost, Nik."

"Best out of eight hundred and fifty five, Rebekah, or I'll dagger you again."

Elijah rolled his eyes at his siblings' continued argument, reluctantly walking down the stairs. "Who won the first game?" he asked upon reaching them. "I'll go get the cure right now if you can tell me."

"I won!"

He jumped when the both shouted. "One of you is lying and doesn't deserve it." They stared at him blankly as he made his way to the front door. "Be home by midnight, both of you."

They found him out side the nursery at Mystic Falls hospital.

Well, Meredith found him, and called Damon, who told Stefan, who called Klaus.

"Elijah?" Rebekah called out hesitantly.

He didn't even turn his head to look at his sister, his gaze on the babies through the big window. "They look just like him."

"Oh no." It was Klaus who spoke up this time, shaking his head at his brother. "For the hundredth time, Elijah, you weren't there when he was born. You were a bit … preoccupied." He shrugged, mimicking the movement of stabbing someone in the chest.

Elijah's eyes widened at his brother's words and he turned slowly to face him. "You." Before either of his siblings could react further, he walked past them, calling over his shoulder. "Let's go, Rebekah. I'll get you the cure."

She grinned excitedly, turning to facer her hybrid brother. "For once, Nik, your daggers and anti-Malijah lifestyle has done something good."

"They aren't celebrities!" He shouted when she followed Elijah down the hall. "You can't put their names together!" He'd been expecting a lot of things - Rebekah to come back and yell at him, or maybe trade the cure for fangirling rights - but not for Elijah to be the one to shout back at him.

"Yes we are. Yes she can."
