"Listen, Flash," Twilight started, pulling her orange coltfriend aside.
"What's up, Twi?" Flash Sentry asked, giving his marefriend a concerned look.
The purple alicorn sat down on her bed. She couldn't bare to look him in the eye when he sat beside her. She felt awful to have to do this to him, but she just wasn't happy. He tried to put his wing around her, but she flicked it aside and bit her lip. She forced herself to make her violet eyes make contact with his cobalt ones.
"We need to talk." She said to him in a hushed voice.
"What is it we need to talk about?" He asked, and grinned at her. When she didn't return his smile, his expression grew serious. "Twilight, what's wrong?" He asked, concerned.
"We need to talk about us." She planted her hoof in the mattress, emphasizing her problem. He blinked, confused.
"You see, Flash, I was a different mare when I met you. Literally, I wasn't even a pony then." He gave her another puzzled gaze. "Long story. Anyways, I was a little scared and upset when I met you. I had a lot of new responsibilities to stress over as a princess. I felt like I needed protection. Then, this handsome royal guard starts talking to me and offering to help and being protective and just, in general being a kindred spirit."
Flash became sullen and hostile. "Wait, what royal guard? Did he try to get you to cheat on me or something? Because I swear, if I find him I'll kick his-"
"No, no! I was talking about you, Flash!" Twilight tried to soothe him over.
"Oh. Sorry."
"It's alright. As I was saying, you were there, and you made me feel very safe and protected. I liked you a lot for that. But now that I'm not so overwhelmed, that I don't really need protection anymore...I feel like we're drifting apart. We're not really close like we once were. Now I'm starting to see why we're not clicking. We don't have any similar interests, you don't really listen..."
"Wait, what'd you say?"
"See? This is what I'm talking about! You and me just...it's not working! I'm sorry, Flash...I can't be with you anymore." Twilight sighed, and kissed his cheek before she bolted out the door, not pausing to look at Flash.
As soon as Twilight was out the door, she wiped her tongue off with the hooves. Then, she smiled gleefully. "GIRLS! WE'RE HOME FREE FROM BRAD!" She screamed in pure happiness, galloping down the hall towards her five friends.
