This is the sequel to my other Doctor Who story "Prelude". This time it is from the Doctor's POV.
Enjoy! And please comment.
so she dances
She pulls back the hair from her face
she turns to the window to sway in the moonlight
Even her shadow has grace; a waltz for the girl out of reach.
That is how it starts.
At first he thinks (and he is sure) that he must be hallucinating. Maybe he has gone crazy after all?
Then, from one moment to the next he decides that he is dreaming.
Usually he never dreamt. Ever. Not before she had left anyway.
But there was no other explanation.
She lifts her hands up to the sky
She moves with the music
It is always about her. The perfect rose.
But she seems too real to be just a dream, he ponders.
When he finally notices the music in the background he smiles slightly. She has never looked more beautiful then at this exact moment.
He could spend a life time watching her, longer than even he has been alive.
This romance is
From afar calling me silently
Now she is looking at him, smiling. Waiting. The distance fading between them she holds out both of her arms and for the first time he looks into her eyes.
They are glowing like a thousand universes through time and space. He has never seen something so beautiful.
A waltz for the chance I should take
But how will I know where to start?
She's spinning between constellations and dreams
Her rhythm is my beating heart
So he takes her hands, pulling her as tight as possible to his body. Her warmth almost overwhelms him and he feels his feet moving. Swaying.
It is almost like when she was still with him. A mere touch of her gives him back the feeling of completeness again. Her hair is touching his face when she lays her head on his shoulder.
When I close my eyes I can see
The spotlights are bright on you and me
We've got the floor
And you're in my arms
How could I ask for more?
That is how he will remember this. Like all the other times before. This is what helps him to keep on going when all he wants to do is stop being.
He steps back a bit and lifts his right hand to touch her face, still buried in his shoulder.
She stills.
The melody's making her cry
Carefully, with the tip of his thumb he wipes away the tears. A slight smile appears on her lips. She whispers something he cannot understand.
But he knows, anyway.
Forever.
Almost unnoticeable, he nods. Wrapping his arms around her, they start to sway again. Because that is everything they can do.
His hearts start to beat faster. Should a dream feel this real?
Then, a whisper …
When?
He cannot answer. Instead, he lets go of her and turns around.
Because that is all he can do.
Doctor?
He hears her calling.
He turns around and sees her, smiling sadly. It breaks his hearts.
The next moment she shakes her head.
She has made her decision and the Doctor knows he has made his a long time ago.
Forever is not just a word;
It is a promise.
She moves with the music
The song is her lover
The melody's making her cry
So she dances
… with him. Forever.
