Chapter 1
When they passed Exit 112, Kat asked a question to her friend, John.
"So, John… since we have about 20 minutes, would you mind if I interview you?" she asked. He shrugged, so she pulled out a pad of paper from her purse, handed it to him, and started to fish out a pen. "Ugh. Remind me to organize my purse tonight. I really don't want to embarrass myself when I need to grab a pen, and have to go through this mess!" John rolled his eyes, and motioned her to wait a moment. Reaching into a jacket pocket, he pulled out a pen, and handed it to her. "For you, my lady!" he teased. "Thanks." She smiled, and gave him a half-hug. "No problem. That's what friends are for, right?"
John was really an amazing friend of hers. They had been friends for quite a while, actually. She had been walking to class, and was coming around a corner, when he ran into her. As in, ran into her, knocking both of them over onto the lament flooring. He later explained, after helping her get up, that he was trying to get to class on time, and thought the minute bell had rung, so he started to run towards his classroom. While talking, the minute bell actually rang, so they said their goodbyes, and went to their separate classrooms. But after class, Kat was surprised when she walked out of her classroom, and was met by John, who was leaning against the wall across from her classroom.
As soon as he spotted her, he had ran up, and started to apologize, and kept apologizing for the whole day. Between classes, during lunch, and even after school, he kept trying to apologize. After school had been nearly a disaster, because he had followed her onto her bus, and only had gotten off when she managed to cut into his little rant of that it was his fault, and ask if the bus was his bus. He'd gotten off, but the next day, he was waiting outside, ready to start apologizing all over again. Eventually, he had stopped, but that was only after they had become friends.
They were really close, hanging out at his house or hers nearly every afternoon. When they weren't at home, they usually could be found at the library, reading and talking about common interests they share, or just walking around town, or in the park, just talking. Most people were used to their closeness, but every now and then, the occasional new kid would asked if they were dating, but would learn pretty fast that both are technically available… if they actually dated. They both shared the same belief, that they would eventually meet a person, and know they would be the one. Kat knew that John would find the perfect person pretty fast. He was a really nice and funny guy, and not that bad of a looker, with his soft brown hair, and deep green eyes, that held deepness to them, like you could look into his soul, and he could look into yours. Her… she was actually worried that… well… she wouldn't measure up to whoever wanted to date her… if anyone wanted to date her. She was the small, quiet girl in the back of the class, the one who had skipped two grades by how smart she was. No one would want to date someone like that… right?
"Hey Kat! Look out the window! We're almost there!" John whispered in her ear. She nearly jumped out of her skin, so deep in her thoughts. He smirked, which resulted in a smack on his chest, wiping the smirk off. She looked out of the window as the hotel got larger and larger, the closer they got. "Well, let's go."
