Chaptre One - Tohru
A small, spring breeze swept over the hustle and bustle of Narume, eventually dying upon a patch of petunias. Crisp morning sunshine illumed the flowers, causing the night's dew to sparkle as it disappeared. Birdsong echoed off the high walls of the mansion surrounding the flowers.
A mouse haired girl hummed happily as she worked to rid the blooms of weeds. Sitting back, she surveyed her work with her hand in her lap. The job was nearly done – just a few more weeds!
Her eyes fell upon a furry, black lump near the wall. Moving to investigate, she noticed part of it was rising and falling slowly – shallowly. As the shock of finding a wounded animal passed, she began to recognize the pile of fur as a cat.
"Hello, little one," She cooed, inching forward. The cat jumped up, prepared to flee. "It's okay."
It stared at her, weary of the strange person. It inched away, limping slightly, and growled.
"I bet you are hungry. I'll get you some milk," she offered, standing slowly.
With Tohru gone, the cat tried to slink off. After days of hunger gnawing at his insides and traveling, however, a few feet of limping proved to be too much for the tom. He collapsed in a heap, to await the girl's return.
