Jack wakes up when she feels a cold breeze brush across her shoulders. She groggily rubs the sleep out of her eyes, mentally cursing Shepard as she does.

Used to jump awake so easy, til he made me so damn soft.

She looks around for the source of the breeze and sees Shepard standing out on the balcony leaning on the railing. She slips out of the bed and walks over. She can tell something's eating at him as he doesn't turn at her approach. She stops a step behind him, unsure of what to do. She awkwardly reaches out with one hand but quickly pulls it back. He never pries, so neither will she. They stand in silence for a several moments before he speaks quietly.

"I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere, til it all went up in smoke. My entire adult life, I've done nothing but war. I've killed hundreds of thousands. Doomed three entire species to extinction. Now I'm standing in a high rise apartment on one of the richest worlds in the galaxy with the love of my life. How did I get here?"

"Who gives a shit?"

She takes his arm and turns him around, laying her hands on his shoulders. His go to her hips of their own accord.

"If I learned anything from you, it's live where you are, fuck where you were. All the shit I went through got me here, with you, what else matters?"

He brushes her hair, now long enough to hang between her shoulders, behind her ear and smiles.

"Nothing."

She gives him a kiss but before he can deepen it she pulls back. She takes his hand and pulls him back towards the bedroom.

"Good. Now let's go, it's cold as shit out here."
