Hi all! This is just a one-shot that came to me and wouldn't leave me alone. I think it's a bit blah but I'll let you guys decide. Remember no more chapters after this!

DISTRACTION

Kensi, Sam and Callen sat at their desks, working through an endless amount of files of paperwork that had needed catching up on. The silence permeating through the bullpen was often interrupted by various groans and sighs as each file was closed and a new one opened.

"This sucks!" Kensi growled, as she threw the file down in the outbox tray and reached for another file.

"That it does Kens" Callen nodded, with a sigh.

The sight of Eric coming downstairs made all three instantly look up expectantly, hoping the computer whizz had a new case.

Eric glanced at the team but shook his head sadly, "Sorry guys. I got nothing at the moment"

"Argghh! This really sucks!" Kensi was frustrated as she glanced over at her empty partner's desk.

Deeks was away on a short assignment for LAPD. It was expected to be about two weeks going, give or take and as much as Kensi wouldn't admit it, she was missing him badly.

"I'm sure Shaggy will be back soon Kens" Sam smiled at Kensi's gaze at Deeks' desk.

"How's he doing anyway? Have you heard?" Callen asked.

"He's managed to sneak a text to me every night telling me he's fine and it should be wrapped up pretty soon. I just wish I could be there to back him up"

"Every night huh?" Sam smirked. "Does he just text you he's fine or something more?"

"I don't know what you mean Sam" Kensi shook her head, diverting her eyes down to the paper below.

Callen looked across, "You're not talking about Deeks texting Kensi in a dirty way are you partner?" he grinned.

"You never know G" Sam chuckled as he saw a rosy hue starting to show on a certain brunette's face.

A loud grumble from Kensi's stomach made the boys stop and look.

"Looks like someone needs feeding Sam. What do you say we go get lunch?" Callen stretched.

"Sounds like a plan. Let's go" Sam grabbed his keys.

"Want company?" Kensi stood.

"Nah its okay we can manage" Callen waved her away. "We'll be back soon"

"Sugar, bring lots of sugar" Kensi called out.

Sam and Callen were heading down along the coast, heading for a couple of food trucks nearby. Callen glanced out the window, watching the waves rolling into a perfect pipe shape before crashing loudly on the crowded shore.

"Deeks would love to be out there today. The waves are pumping"

"Yeah he would" Sam nodded.

"What's up?" asked Callen, "You've got that look"

"What look?"

"The look that says I'm worried"

"You're imagining things G"

"Is it about Deeks?"

Sam sighed, "Kensi's right. I don't like when Deeks has no backup behind him at LAPD"

"Sam, Deeks knows he can call us if something goes wrong. We'd be there for him" Callen argued.

"I know G"

All of a sudden, a running flash of a tall blonde man rushed past, heading for a back alley.

"That looked a lot like…" Callen pointed.

"Deeks" Sam stated.

He slammed the brakes, quickly turning the wheel causing the Challenger into a spin. His foot hit the accelerator, as he weaved through the traffic to follow Deeks' direction. They stopped just short of the alley and threw open the doors. Pulling out their guns and clicking them into action. They warily approached the alley, stealing looks down to where they saw their detective. Deeks was engaged in a fight with three burly men. He was holding his own, but Sam and Callen could see he was getting tired.

"Arrgh!" Deeks cried out, grabbing his arm as it started to bleed.

He scanned the area for a weapon; his gun had been taken from him.

One of the men grabbed Deeks in a chokehold from behind. The pain from his arm and the strength of the attacker was making it hard to breathe.

"Federal Agents! Put down your weapons and let him go!" Callen yelled out, gun raised and pointed.

The other two men whirled and one had a blade dancing in his hands, the other had a gun. Sam approached the man with the blade, teasing him to engage to fight. Callen meanwhile was taking care of the man with the gun.

"You have a choice here" Callen argued, "Live or die"

The man clicked the safety off and raised his arm. He fell down dead before he got the shot off.

Sam was getting the upper hand with the knife man, before Callen fired his gun, hitting the man straight in the heart.

Deeks gave one last effort. He rolled himself with a heave, throwing the attacker's momentum off. Sam seeing the opportunity grabbed the knife from the dead man and threw with precision.

Hunched on his knees, Deeks struggled to get his breath back.

"Deep slow breaths. In and out" Callen crouched beside him, his hand on his back.

"You're bleeding" Sam frowned at the pool of blood dribbling down his left arm.

Deeks looked at it. "I'll live" he breathed. "Thanks guys"

"You can tell us what happened as we drive you to hospital" Sam gave him a gentle nudge forward.

Callen pulled out his phone and called in to Ops. "Eric, we're at the alley down by Surfer's Beach, we have three men down and we're taking Deeks to hospital. Get the LAPD guys down. They can clean it up"

"Whoa, what? What happened to Deeks?" Eric stumbled.

"Deeks? What's happened? Eric you better tell me or…" Kensi shouted.

"Just tell Kensi that Deeks is okay, he's a little banged up and has a stab wound in his arm but he's fine" Callen reassured.

Callen heard Kensi yelling "What hospital?" to Eric as he disconnected the call. He chuckled and shook his head as he headed to the Challenger.

"You have one very pissed partner on your hands Deeks" Callen smirked as he got in the car.

"Oh boy" Deeks sighed.

"So what happened?" Sam glanced in the rear mirror.

"I got blown. Somehow the gang I was infiltrating got wind I was undercover and they didn't like it. So the result is this" he waved at his battered body.

"Does LAPD know your cover is blown?" Callen asked.

"I called it in as soon as I got an inkling something had gone south. Bates reassured me everything was still good in the case. He was wrong"

"Well I'm sure Hetty will have something to say to Bates" Sam said, as he indicated to turn to the drive at the hospital.

"I'd like to be a fly on the wall when that conversation happens" Deeks grinned.

"Come on, let's go get you cleaned up" Sam lead the way.

Kensi strode purposely through the automatic doors at the hospital. Scanning the waiting area, she spied Callen and Sam and hurried over, anger pasted on her face.

"Where is he?" she demanded.

"The doctor's looking him over now, Kens. Relax" Sam patted her shoulder.

"I want to see him" she ignored her team mates and headed to the reception desk.

She flashed her badge at the woman and scowled, "I need to see Detective Marty Deeks right now"

"Uh he's being examined in Room Four" Katrina replied, as she withered back from the brunette's death glare. "But I'm sure it will be okay for you to see him" Katrina pointed to her left to the hallway.

"Thank you" Kensi retorted as she resumed her angry walk to the examination room.

She peeped through the glass window and saw her partner, with his shirt off and scrapes and contusions over his body. The stab wound on his left arm stood out like a beacon. She opened the door and walked in.

"Oh hey Fern!" Deeks smiled.

"Don't you Fern me, buster!" Kensi growled. "I can't leave you five minutes and you get into trouble"

"Not my fault" Deeks stated.

"How do you figure that?" Kensi walked over.

"I didn't have my kick-ass Kensalina having my back"

She rolled her eyes and sat beside him. "Idiot"

Deeks laughed.

The door swung open and a tall male doctor carrying a tray walked in. "Hello I'm Doctor McLaren. I'll be patching you up now Detective". The doctor placed the tray on the little table nearby.

Kensi meanwhile was scanning her eyes all over Deeks' battered body. Running her fingers gently over his muscled torso, she frowned as she examined each bruise and injury.

"Oh Deeks" she gasped as the doctor removed the bandage from his stab wound.

"It's okay Kens" Deeks grasped her hand, "Really I'm fine"

"Okay Detective I need to give you two needles before I can stitch this arm injury" Doctor McLaren stated.

"Uh two needles? Really?" Deeks looked worried.

"Yes one needle to numb the area and the other needle is antibiotic to help stop infection"

"Isn't there something else you can use to do what you have to do Doc?" Deeks pleaded.

The doctor frowned, looking confused. "No there isn't. Is there a problem?"

"I don't like needles" Deeks mumbled.

Kensi stood, "Hey Doctor can you give me a minute? I think I can help with this"

"Sure" the doctor waved but hovered close by.

"Deeks" she clasped his hands. "Tell me. Is there something when you were a kid that happened for you to not like needles?"

A heavy sigh escaped Deeks. "You'll think it's stupid"

Kensi shook her head. "No. Please. Tell me"

"Okay. My grandma had a small hobby farm that we used to visit. Not very often but it was always fun. Anyway, she had this orchard of apples. The trees were huge and I used to love climbing them. One day I climbed up. The trunks were slippery because we had rain the night before. I slipped and fell to the ground. I dislocated my shoulder. Mom and Dad drove me to the hospital. Dad grumbled the whole way how useless I was and how taking me to the doctor to get fixed up would be costly. He tried to put the shoulder back in himself but that just made it worse. When I got there the doctor approached me and told me I had to have a needle to numb the area, so they could put the shoulder back in. I was scared and didn't want the needle. Dad got fed up with me sooking as he called it about having the needle and grabbed the needle from the doctor and stabbed it straight into my shoulder with force. I screamed in agony and the doctor ushered Dad out and called security. I haven't liked having needles since"

"Oh my gosh. Deeks I'm so sorry. How old were you?"

"Six"

Kensi stood in front of him and encased both of his hands, "You don't have to worry today. I got you. I'm right here. And…" she closed the gap and kissed him on his lips.

As she was kissing Deeks, she was waving her arm at the doctor to administer the needle. She smiled against his lips as she peeked one eye open to see the doctor give a thumbs up sign and Deeks thoroughly engrossed in kissing her.

"All done. You're right to go Detective. Keep the wound clean and see if you can have a couple of weeks of at least to recuperate" Doctor Mclean smiled.

"What about the needle?" Deeks cocked his head at the doctor.

"You've had it Deeks" Kensi laughed.

"Oh you distracted me by kissing me. That's sneaky Blye" Deeks chuckled.

"It worked didn't it?" she shrugged.

"I don't think I can suggest that technique for everyone that has a needle phobia but I'll give it a try" the doctor winked at Kensi and disappeared out the door.

"Well played Fern, well played. So do you happen to have any other distractions you're particularly good at?"

"Oh I can think of a few" she murmured as she closed her lips to his once again.

"Then let's get out of here" Deeks returned her kiss with passion.
