Giving Up the Guy
Rei wasn't supposed to give up. She was supposed to lose – or win; that would have done too, but if she wasn't going to get what she wanted, she sure as hell didn't expect it to be because she was throwing in the towel.
Except she didn't get what she wanted, and she did throw in the towel, let Usagi have her man. Because even she, blinded by her own infatuation, could see how perfect Mamoru was for her, and how perfect she was for Mamoru. Rei knew she had no chance, and that she didn't want a chance if it meant breaking something so precious, so complete. She didn't think it was even possible to break that.
So…she gave up. She still fought with Usagi over other things, petty things, but Usagi got the main thing: the guy they'd both been in love with, both argued bitterly over.
Rei wasn't supposed to give up. But she had.
