"So about a week or two after my disastrous ending with Parker, I went to the local supermarket to buy skim milk, a cartoon of eggs, a head of lettuce, orange juice, and bread. Totally normal things to buy if they did not have food or can't cook right? I thought it was. As I waited in line for the cashier, I notice a drunk guy behind me being held up by the most gorgeous guy I've ever seen. I could hear him talking to his drunk friend with an adorable accent. My heart melted on the spot. I mean he was gorgeous with a capital G.
Anyway, I finally got to the conveyor belt. As I'm putting my items on it, the drunk guy just looked at me and then at my items. I noticed that his gorgeous friend was absent at the moment, much to my very big disappointment. I think that I wanted to marry him then and there. You know about feeling love at first sight right? I think that was what I was feeling. I swear I could feel it in my bones that we were going to be important to each other. Then the drunk guy crashed my thoughts when he calmly told me with a drunken slur, "You must be single."
I looked at my items on the conveyor belt and looked at him. Was it the things that I was buying that gave it away? There was nothing interesting that I could see that clued me to being single. While I was surprised by his statement, I was also intrigued. My relationship with Parker barely lasted a month and he cheated on me to top it off. So I was still looking for my Mr. Right.
"That's right," I told him. "How do you know?" By this time his friend and another woman came by his side.
As his gorgeous friend looked like he was about to apologize for his drunken friend's behavior, the drunk guy replied, " 'Cause you're ugly."
I don't remember what happened exactly after that."
"Oh my god mom!" Buffy's eldest child at 17 exclaimed. "That must have been so embarrassing."
Buffy grimaced. "Trust me. It was. But not as embarrassing as what happened next."
Her daughter stared at her with anticipation. Her red, puffy eyes were evidence of a broken heart curtsey her boyfriend of two years. Well, ex-boyfriend now.
Buffy continued. "The next thing I know I'm on top of this guy and his face is all bloody. The woman who was with them pulled me off him and then proceeded to handcuff me in front of everyone in the store. Apparently she was a cop. She didn't take too kindly to a crazy person beating up her drunk friend. Meanwhile, the gorgeous guy just looked at me with disgust while he helped his friend up from the floor. I wanted to die at that moment. I couldn't believe what I had done. I mean, I thought that I would never, ever be that kind of person. I kept seeing him looking at me with accusing eyes. So I spent the night in jail. Not that I actually had a choice in the matter."
"That's how you met dad?" her daughter asked. "By beating up his friend?"
"No," Buffy squirmed on the couch. "Your father was the one that I beat up."
Her daughter's jaw dropped.
"Well he called me ugly!" Buffy said in her defense. Her offspring continued to stare at her in shock. "And besides, he got me back a month after that when we sparred for the first time."
"Kicked her ass I did," Spike said with a smirk as he came into the room.
"Sure. Keep rubbing that in my face," Buffy's face turned slightly pink with a mix of embarrassment and anger.
"Aw luv, you did mess up my gorgeous face. You're just lucky that Kate let you out in the morning. Angel wanted you there for the rest of the week. Me? I was happy to just hand that cute little arse of yours back to you."
"Wait. The totally gorgeous guy was Uncle Angel?" their daughter asked looking at them both. "And Aunt Kate actually locked you up? Is that why she always teases you with handcuffs?"
"Oi! You never said that you thought my best mate was totally gorgeous!" Spike accused his wife.
"The point is," Buffy told her daughter, ignoring her husband who sat down beside her. "Don't ever question a drunk."
