Rose closed the door of the TARDIS and stood against it for a while, her head resting on the wood, her shoulders shaking slightly. She turned around but didn't look up, instead awkwardly flattening down the half apron she wore. At last she looked up the Doctor. Her eyes were red and her cheeks were blotched, tears were still streaming down her face. She didn't smile sadly as she usually did, didn't try to ignore it and move on, she simply stood there, looking at him, an expression on his face that evoked so much pathos from the Doctor, such sympathy and emotion and compassion, that he felt the tears threatening to overcome him. Rose finally let a whimper escape her lips,
"He left me, Doctor…he left me" she said bitterly and up the ramp and into the Doctor's arms. She held onto the lapels of his jacket and cried. He held her for a long time, his arms around her comfortingly.
Finally, Rose sniffled and looked up at the Doctor, streaks of tears down her face.
"I've got you, don't I?" she sobbed.
The Doctor looked gently confused.
"I've got you?"
"Sorry?"
"Like Mickey said, I don't need him, coz I've got you?"
The Doctor was thrown off, not expecting this and was too confused and stunned to reply. Rose took it in the wrong way and the tears formed in her eyes again and rolled down her face. She cried for a while until the Doctor put his hands softly on her cheeks and lifted her face to meet his.
"Go get changed…we'll see your mum", he could see the disappointed look on her face and turned away. She needed to see Jackie. The Doctor would tell her later. He felt like that was always his excuse.
Reluctantly she left and came back ten minutes later, still, or even more, tear-stricken and she worn jeans and a top adorned with decorative buttons. She looked so vulnerable, so defenseless that the Doctor gave in and opened his arms again. They held tightly to each other as the TARDIS took off and landed in Jackie's living room, as close to her mother as the Doctor could possibly make it.
He looked down at her and wiped away the tears from her face.
"You have me Rose, you have me", he said quietly.
And with that Rose gave a sad smile and, squeezing the Doctor's hand, walked out of the TARDIS and ran to her mother, holding her tight
