Enna Burning Fanfic
Finn woke to see rotting boards above his head. The fetid smell of animal languished in the air, and Finn remembered where he was- remembered Enna, and that smirking captain, Sileph.
Yet Enna was no damsel in distress-far from it. She was the bravest person he knew, fighting the pull of fire as she did. Enna was even braver than those he had shared the battlefield with: she battled against an unseen foe, one that gave her such power and yet threatened to consume her. And still she triumphed.
He loved her for that.
Thinking of Enna jogged Finn's memory- why he was in this barn, in Tira, far away from Bayern, where he was fighting in a war against Tira. After his and Enna's mutual friend, Isi, the queen of Bayern, had returned after three weeks away, he, Razo, and Isi's husband Geric had been aghast: Isi had cut off her waist-length blond hair that marked her as a foreigner from Kildenree into a short bob that just reached her shoulders- a laborer's haircut. All of this had been so she could travel to Tira to warn her best friend Enna, through a story, that they were trying to rescue her, but that plans were still undecided. Isi had also confirmed that Sileph, that mocking Tiran captain, was a people-speaker, a dangerous find.
That was where Finn and his (and Enna's) friend Razo had come in. Pushing their horses almost to a breaking point, they had arrived in Tira within a week. By then, Enna had been a prisoner for three months. Finn really didn't know how much longer she could hold out. To be held by a ruthless captain was one thing, but being held captive on top of having merciless fire knowledge- knowledge that could kill- was another animal altogether. Enna was strong- she'd held out for far longer than anyone else he knew could- but he had seen the fire's effects on her brother Leifer, how Leifer had burned himself out on the battlefield, unable to keep control any longer. Finn just didn't know. Thoughts like these- filled with fear for Enna's future, a future that should include him at her side- kept Finn awake at night, unlike Razo. No, Razo was sound asleep, as Finn saw as he turned his head. The completely harmless and loveable Razo, bits of straw blending in with the brown hair that always stuck out at odd angles, was snoring loudly. Finn only wished he had the same luck, and that the luck extended to Enna.
Finn closed his eyes, ready to drop off to sleep. Tomorrow was another day, another chance for Enna- and for him.
