Jasper and Renesmee

I sat on the couch next to Emmett who turned the T.V. to a collage football game.

"You know, Jazz," he said as I grabbed the remote to turn down the volume. "I held Nessie for the first time yesterday while you were hunting." He told me proudly. "Weird to think I'm an uncle."

I widened my eyes in shock. Uncle? I haven't even thought of myself as an uncle. Then it dawned on me that I haven't held Nessie either.

"Mhmm. I haven't held her yet." I confessed.

"Really?" Emmett asked looking at me.

I nodded. "Really."

"Well do you want to hold her?" Edward asked coming from the kitchen with Renesmee in his arms. "The way she's growing it won't be long till she'll be to big to hold."

"You want me to hold her?" I asked my brother in disbelief.

"Well, Jazz. You are her uncle."

Edward walked over to the couch with Nessie outstretched in his arms, an offering for me to hold her. I stood up. It somehow seemed safer that way. As Emmett said, I did go hunting so I wasn't thirsty. I looked at Edward. "Are you sure?'' I whispered. Renesmee looked so peaceful in Edward's arms, sleeping. Her skin was white, almost translucent looking; I could see the blood flowing through her veins. Don't think about that, I chastised myself.

Edward nodded as he carefully handed me my niece. Her skin was hot where it touched mine and she fit perfectly into my arms. She stirred and her chocolate brown eyes opened as she looked at me.

"She's beautiful." I told Edward.

Hearing my voice, Renesmee looked at me again and her hand touched my face. Her thoughts clouded my vision and I saw my own face the way she was seeing it.

"She's making the connection that your family, Jasper. She knows that you are her uncle."

I'm an uncle. The name was foreign to me, just as children were. Alice and I had never even discussed the thought of kids are own, but I could often feel disappointment from Rosalie whenever she thought about children, but as I stood here holding Renesmme, I could finally understand why my sister was so bitter about not being able to have kids.

"She loves you already, Jasper." Edward told me.

I smiled at Renesmee. " I love you too pretty baby."

Renesmee smiled back at me, hearing my voice.

"What's he doing?" I heard Alice ask Edward.

"What's it look like, Alice? He's holding his niece."

I turned to look at Alice and she smiled at me. "You're a natural," she told me.

By now everyone was standing, gathered around Renesmee and me.

The emotions that surrounded me where shock from Bella, Rosalie, and Alice; smugness from Edward and Emmett; but the most dominating emotion came from Carlisle and Esme. I smiled because my parents were proud of me, something I felt they haven't been in a long time.

They smiled back at me. "Good job, Son" Carlisle told me.

Renesmee's eyelids drooped and eventually shut. I sighed as I handed her back to Edward.

Edward shifted Nessie to his left arm so he could pat me on the back. "Good job."

Bella, Alice, Rosalie, Carlisle, and Esme all smiled at me as I walked back to Emmett, who sat back down when he saw me walking over there.

I smiled at him.

"Good job, Bro." He said.

"You're right." I said laughing. "It is weird to think we're uncles."

Emmett laughed too, almost shaking the whole house. "But we are."
