The Memories Remain
Barsad leaned quietly against the wall of City Hall watching the scene before him unfold. This was probably 6th or 7th time in his years spent under Bane's command that he secretly witness this delicate and meaningful moment.
He alone was probably one of the few who knew of Bane and Talia's relationship. But kept it to himself, it wasnt his secret to share anyway.
Barsad watched how they eyed each other and wish for a moment that he could hear what was silently said between them, other times he liked it better this way. It was better to imagine. After afew moments he walked away not wanting to pry into their world anymore.
He left City Hall behind him, he walked alone the dark, cold and empty night of Gotham. Even after all these years he never got use to his jealousy of not having anyone to share his inner thoughts with.
There was one once. Lara. She had the most beautiful long black hair that shined in the sun, her simple brown eyes always seemed to look right through him. Her little hands fit into his like a puzzle. Barsad stopped outside the dark city park. Lara always wanted to go to the city and see its towers and parks. He smiled remembering how those brown eyes lite up at photos of New York's Central Park. Then his smile faded. He threw away those dreams.
"You promised me that this was your last job." she said standing at the door as he tied the laces on his boot.
"So did I, But they need me on this." He whispered grabbing pack on the floor beside the bed. He walked to Lara and gently touched her swollen belly.
"This road that your going down, I can't follow you." she whispered closing her eyes, Barsad tensed as he saw the tears rolling.
"Don't do this now. I'll be back in a week." He said walking away from Lara.
Barsad remembered coming home and finding only an empty house. She had left him like she always said she would if he didn't change. She left everything taking with her only his child.
All is gone from him but the memories remain.
