Rise Of The Teenage Guardian
Being from a small town like Hope, it's not hard to get depressed. Everyday, I try to find new and wonderful things to do, but, they're just… gone. Not a single flicker of hope has come my way. I really wish the figments of my childhood were real. Maybe then I could feel better, and not have everyone around me look at me with concern in their eyes.
All this happened in March. One fine day, a week before Easter, I sat on my twin-sized bed, reading a book called, "The Guardians of Childhood." It really is my favorite book of all time. It's so well-written, I actually start to believe in the "guardians" as the book calls them. North, Tooth, even Bunny. But then, I close the book, and realize I've been sitting here this entire time. Then the depression hits. Hard. It hits so hard, that I end up just laying in my bed the rest of the day. But not today. Once I set the book down, my dad came in saying that it was snowing outside. I looked at him in disbelief. "Nice try, dad, but it's spring. I doubt it's snowing." He took me out of my room and outside. "Well, look at that. Snow." "I told you!" he said, goofy grin spread across his face. I then went back inside to get some warmer clothes on.
Once outside again, I headed for the lake. That's where I always went. My favorite place in Arkansas. So big, so calm. Made me feel like things were alright, even though, I knew they weren't. Looking out across the lake, I saw something peculiar. A single stick standing up. Ok, mind, nice one. Now make it go away. But it didn't. It just stood there, mocking me with it's realness. "Wait a minute… It's moving!" The stick moved closer, slowly but surely, as if being led by some unseen force. Wait a minute… I've seen that stick somewhere… Hook-shaped… approximately 4-5 feet… JACK FROST! But, what's he doing here? "JACK!" I called out. A man, about 5 feet tall, started to materialize. I knew he was real, I just knew it! He then casually glided over. "Oh, hi, and who might you be?" He said, as he landed on the ground next to me. "Oh, no one, just a small town girl… who watches childish movies." I said, blush spreading across my face. If he was real, that meant the rest of the guardians were real too! My heart was beating wildly, knowing that somewhere, the rest of guardians were out there. Jack waved his hand in front of my face,"hello, earth to girl." I snapped out of my trance. "Oh, sorry, just got a little lost in thought." I said, rubbing the back of my neck, nervously. Great job, Mackenzie, you made yourself look like a total spaced out dork in front of Jack Frost.
Wow, I really hope people like this. I don't know how long this has been in my folder, collecting dust, but, I finally got around to making it. Please enjoy!
