Startling by Each Step's ending has left me smarting. Very short piece.

Your hand in mine is enough.

"She waited like a fool everyday for you!"

Apologies do not matter anymore.

"But now it's too late!"

I just wish to see you one last time...

"She's here." The box is in his hands, heavy.

One last time before I go.

"You've seen her now."
