A/N: Finally watched this movie. Loved it! I felt so bad for Arthur. This is just a blip about Arthur's thoughts on him and William and the watch.
Seconds of Nothing
Arthur held the watch in his thin, quivering hands.
It was shiny, and heavy, and looking at it broke his soul into pieces.
He loathed that watch, and he cherished it with the entirety of his being.
It was what remained of William, of their friendship, of his own love. It was proof, evidence, and he held onto it tightly, clamping his thin fingers around the metal.
As much as he loved it, revered it, needed it, he also despised it. It was unbearable to look at because every time he did he was reminded of what he would never have again, of what he hadn't said, of what William had never known. Every time his eyes drifted to that golden watch, he felt guilt, and anger, shame, and sadness.
Yes, the watch was a symbol of their friendship, love, but it was also a reminder of William's death.
Each second that the hands on the clock ticked away, was another second that Arthur had to live without William by his side.
It counted how long Arthur's soul had been empty, how long he had been alone, and how long he had been forced to forget a hidden truth.
He could hide forever because the reminder of his secret was gone.
He could hide forever because there was nothing left to conceal.
