This is my first White Collar fanfic. I hope you guys enjoy it.
He knows that he shouldn't be lying to Peter. He and Neal have become friends despite their past history and now Neal's kind of regretting that. Well, actually it's a mix. He likes his relationship with Peter. It's nice and comfortable; Neal has fun when Peter's around(and the FBI agent does too even if he won't admit it).
But somehow it became more than that. They started to trust each other and Neal wishes they hadn't. Because finding Kate should mean more to him than anything. More than Mozzie, more than his life, more than this thing developing between him and Peter, but-
When Peter looks at him and drinks with him and smiles at him, Neal feels his heart being ripped in two different directions. He knows eventually he might have to run to find Kate and he knows that when(if, God, he really hopes it's if) that happens, Peter's going to be devestated and angry and hurt because he went against his instincts to help Neal and look where it got him.
Neal holds the bottle Kate left him in his hands. He's getting close; he's going to find her. But Neal looks out the window at the buildings and has to wonder at what cost.
