Raven woke with her aura pulsing. It wasn't uncommon for her powers to wander at night when she was asleep, checking up on her team mates. But she'd never been woken up by them before.
She slipped from her bed and followed the spike of aura out of her room, along the corridor and round the corner. The pulsing stopped outside a door, and Raven squinted in the dim light to read it.
BEAST BOY
She sighed. Of course. It would be him.
But Raven knew that inside, Beast Boy wasn't always the happy go lucky green guy that everyone thought he was. She knew about the dreams, about the nightmares; about the terrors that plagued his sleeping moments. He may hide behind a happy mask, but she could see straight through it.
Using her powers, she opened the door, overriding the security code. She stepped in and could feel Beast Boy's fear around her. It was radiating from him, heavy in the… choking. She crossed the room quietly, avoiding the piles of dirty laundry, and was glad to see him on the bottom bunk – there was no way she was going to climb that ladder to the top one.
Despite her effort not to wake him, he jolted into a sitting position as she leaned over the bed. He was breathing heavily, his messy green hair stuck to his forehead with sweat.
"Beast Boy, you're okay. It was just a dream." Her words had no effect on him as he turned his wide, frightened eyes on her. Desperate to calm him, she sat on the side of the bed and put her hand on his arm.
"Its okay, Gar." Her attempts still weren't working, so she tried another approach.
"T'el eth mar'r, Beast Boy. T'el eth mar'r mett lo." (You are safe, Beast Boy. You are safe with me.) His shaking stopped and his frightened eyes turned into inquisitive ones. Raven pushed him gently back onto his bed, laying him down and whispering, "Sshh… fel't al suu. Kry's ta'l amoie." (Sshh… be still now. There is nothing to fear.)
Her lyrical voice uttering a delicate language was soft in Beast Boy's ears, causing his eyes to flicker shut. He didn't know what she was saying, but it was very comforting.
Raven watched as his eyes flicked shut and he slipped into a more peaceful sleep. When she knew he was just going under, she said, "Sel aly tome" (Sleep dear one) and gently pushed his hair back from his damp forehead.
She quietly left the room, and when the door shut behind her, she turned and re-read the name on the door. She raised a hand and ran her slender index finger on the letters engraved in the steel, as though she were writing them.
BEAST BOY
She smiled softly at the words, and whispered, "Frees t'el eth sar'r." (Know you are loved) before turning down the corridor, back to her room.
