Anyone Can Change

Hermione Granger never imagined in her entire life that she would ever be able to even tolerate Draco Malfoy, much less even like him. Through all the tormenting and problems that he caused throughout all of their years at Hogwarts, you would have thought that she would despise him, and up until a few weeks ago… she did.

It all started with the Minister needing to partner them up together for an assignment. It was a dangerous one, though that is how all assignments are when you work in the Department of Mysteries.

Minister Shacklebolt had an important matter that was of the utmost importance to the Ministry of Magic in both Britain and America. A new species of dragon had been discovered in America, and some of the younger dragons were terrorizing muggle towns in New York City. Generally the Department of Magical Accidents would have handled the problem, but no one really knew how many dragons were in the clan, and so Hermione and Draco were forced to work together both being the best in their departments.

Hermione provided the brains of the plan and would contribute a large part of the complicated spellwork that would be required. Draco had his flying skills and also was very talented with his wand.

—Shacklebolt's Office—

"You really expect me to work with the ferret?"

"Hermione, calm down. You are both the best in your departments and are best suited for this case," said Shacklebolt. Draco sat as far back in his chair as he could, trying to avoid the wrath of the mudblood. He remembered all too well how it felt when she punched him during their third year and broke his nose.

*Crack* His nose throbbed and he started coughing as blood dripped down his shirt, ruining his tailored shirt and his Italian leather shoes. Hermione walked off as soon as she punched him, but he would never forget the fire he saw in her eyes. The passion of her actions made him wonder if he could ever be as good as she as he wandered up to the Infirmary.

That was the day he came to fear her wrath, but he also came to respect and admire her for defending Hagrid.

The screaming match was finally coming to a close and Hermione had eventually succumbed to working with him although she refused to be in contact with him for any extended period of time. Although slightly reserved about their predicament, Draco was excited for the chance to get to know the Gryffindor princess, even if she might want to kill him every time he glanced at her.
