Part 175 of the Elfwine Chronicles. The Elfwine Chronicles are a series of one-shots built around the family group of Eomer, Lothiriel and Elfwine. The total number will depend on how many ideas I get for new vignettes.
A/N: Where have I been? Ummm, here and there… A busy weekend left me exhausted and slowly recovering, and now it's turned very hot (near 100) which saps all my energy. I am still plugging away at yet another E/L story, but it still has a way to go before it's ready. In the meantime, this snuck into my head the other day and I finally managed to get it on paper.
Battle Scars
"How did you get this scar, my love?" A gentle index finger traced lightly over the puckered skin.
A blush of embarrassment accompanied the answer. "A fall…from a horse."
"Indeed! Tell me more!" The brief answer had piqued curiosity.
"When I was much younger, I thought that I was a more adept rider than I truly was. I managed to sneak a horse from the stables that was much too big and powerful for me. Warhorses do not have much patience with unskilled riders, and I was soon unceremoniously dumped on the ground, and he was free to enjoy a run for a little while."
"And?" The tone was amused, causing further blushing, but eager to know more details of this tale.
"The stablehands quickly noticed the missing horse and alerted Father. I got into a great deal of trouble, though mostly my injuries served as my punishment. But I had to promise never to do such a thing again."
They lay gazing at one another for a moment, and then a snicker dispelled the silence of their room. "How very ironic that you are telling this story rather than me!"
A wrinkled nose was the response, followed by the retort, "Do not tell me you have never done anything similar! I know you too well to believe that!"
Their lips met in a warm kiss, momentarily forgetting the conversation, but at length a nod acknowledged the truth. "Aye, I did. With much the same results. However, I was punished more severely for my mischief!" After a moment's more silence, it was tenderly observed, "But I do hope you have learned increased caution now. I would not have many such injuries marring your lovely body!"
Eyebrows wiggled teasingly after the remark, and Lothiriel laughed, tangling her fingers in her husband's hair. "I assure you that I now take greater care, beloved! Besides, I am a much better rider than I was then. And if I require further training, I am sure I can find a horseman willing to do the honors!"
Pressing another kiss to her lips, Eomer murmured low, "Perhaps tomorrow. Oddly enough, I am not interested in such training just at this moment…"

End note: It is best that you read the Elfwine Chronicles in the order they were written. The more of them that I wrote, the more likely I was to make reference to one of the previous ones and something that happened there. If you want to read them in order, go to the top of this page and click on my name (Deandra). That will take you to my profile page. Scroll down and you will find all the stories I have written. The Elfwine Chronicles are in order from bottom to top since ffn shows them in the order they were posted. A few were posted out of number order, but you can read them in posting order or number order since those few won't be affected in the story content.
