'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'
Robin sighed as he stared up into the distant night sky that was bright with the mystical glow of the faraway planets that earth knew as 'stars'. A foot atop the ledge of the Titan Tower, he rested his chin in his palm, his elbow leaning over the railings that overlooked the vast calm sea.
He could hear the deep echoes of the rocking waves in the stillness as only silence prevailed at this hour of the dark in the dwelling of the Titans - the young heroes and defenders of the city that stood safe behind them. Thanks to them, the residence of Jump City could sleep well without worry. But even these brave fighters of evil needed their rest. All was definitely at serenity as no foe disturbed the present peace - not yet anyway.
But the boy wonder and bold leader of the team could not sleep. Restless, he had found himself here.
'How I wonder where you are'
He was missing someone. Somehow he was afraid to admit this fact. But in the depths of his heart - where most of his inner emotions, his most hidden feelings and thoughts sought refuge from the world; he knew that it was the truth. Yes, he missed her.
'Up above the world so high'
He missed her smile, her laughter, the bright glow of happiness that shone in her brilliant green eyes. The sound of her voice that radiated with joy when she was happy and the evident tone of sorrow - that seemed to call out to him to comfort her when she was sad.
When she spoke his name...
"Robin...?"
The stillness of the air floated gently like a twinkle in the breeze as Robin slowly turned to look over his shoulder.
'Like a diamond in the sky'
Without another word, Starfire walked up to him and stopped just a step away from where he stood, staring at her as if he had just woken up from a long dream.
"Star...?"
Smiling, she nodded.
"Yes. I have returned from my long visit to my home planet...How are you?"
'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'
The emotions he had kept in the shadows of his being seemed to surface into the light.
Smiling back at her, he said,
"I'm fine. How about you?"
Fidgeting with her arm, she looked slightly away as she replied, softly,
"I am too. But I have missed our friends and...you."
A glow of crimson hue rushed to the color of his cheeks as he heard this. Hesitant at first, he finally confessed,
"I...missed you, too, Star."
'How I wonder where you are'
The moment drifted between them as they gazed wordlessly at each other.
Taking that last step, Starfire hugged him. She smiled contentedly as he returned the embrace, drawing her closer into the warmth of his arms.
Yes, she was glad to be back.
Under the sea of stars that stood witness, their happiness shone just as bright.
Together again...
