The Right Time and the Right Place

They've never been good at the heart to hearts, or maybe that's just Dean. He's not so bad at listening to the outpouring of everything that Sam needs to tell him, he's just not good at sharing what he's got churning inside.

This though, this is their place, a clear night, moon shining down casting them in a light that will always stay with them in their memories. The Impala, home for as long as they can really remember. Nothing else in life has ever been so permanent.

This is where they were when Sam said he was going to be leaving for Stanford. And after he'd gone, Dean still sat there, waiting, hoping that he'd come back of his own free will. Torn. He wanted his family, his brother, here where he was supposed to be, where he needed to be for Dean to feel whole. Yet he wanted Sam to be happy, to have his dream, a proper life.

This would never be the same again. There are times when Dean wonders why they still do it. Are they trying to recreate something that's lost to them forever or will everything feel right again one day? He's got no answer, but he wishes it were so easy, wishes he could have the past back, without the gnawing hole that eats away at him and doesn't let him trust in anything any more, not even his little brother.
