Hello, I'm Amanda, and I'm an EOholic. Hehehe. This little puppy came about after watching *gasp* Zebras for the bazillionth time! I adore that episode! But it really was a little rushed at the end. Totally should've been an extended ep, or a two parter. Am I right? Anyway, enjoy and please remember to review while I go drink the elixir of writing... MOUNTAIN DEW! HAHAHAHAH!

Disclaimer: Dude, so not mine.

Why don't you go?

Those four little words, four simple syllables. If she had just gone herself, if she had just made him stay with Donnely, she would have been in his place.

She looked down at her shaking hands, then at her partner's sleeping form.

After he had been released, she had jumped when the doctors said that he probably shouldn't be alone that night. He hadn't been in much of a position to fight, and she had happily signed the discharge papers, assuming responsibility for him.

That would have been almost funny, if he hadn't almost been killed by a psycho posing as a lab technician.

She didn't need a piece of paper telling her that she was completely responsible for her injured partner. She had been responsible for him from the first time she met him.

She fixed herself a cup of hot tea, unable to resist staring at the hall. She had insisted that he sleep in her bed, while she resigned herself to the couch. But in all reality she wanted to be in the bed with him, holding him close in the hot, summer night air.

She set the cup down and slipped back into the bedroom.

His chest rose and fell easily in the moonlight, and for a few minutes, she simply watched him breathe. His shirt was unbuttoned, revealing the white bandages that covered his broad chest. Her hand went to her heart.

He stirred, nearly stopping her heart.

When he continued to sleep, she surprised herself by stepping into the bedroom. She was drawn to him, and she had been from the first time she saw those sparkling eyes. Keeping her breathing steady, she sat down on the edge of the bed.

His eyes drifted open lazily, and seeing her, his mouth curved up in a slow grin. "Liv..."

She smiled, her hand reaching out to stroke his hair. "How do you feel?"

He caught her wrist in a large hand. "Good, now that you're here..."

She smirked. "I've always been here, El."

His smile gave way to something much deeper. "You have, haven't you...?" He gently tugged on her wrist, pulling her down to him.

She was surprised, but even more so when she found herself unwilling to move from the warm arms that encircled her. She snuggled into his side. "I don't think you'll remember this tomorrow," she whispered, yawning.

For a while, there wasn't a response.

"Of course I will. I always will."

His response startled her, and she snuggled deeper into him.

He pulled her closer, resting his head lightly against hers. "I will, Liv."

And in the safety of the dark, she smiled.

The End
