The Compass – Chapter One

He feels it. Hard metal, smooth surface, complicated lines curved on it. It is tiny; almost the size of a coin, but it fills his pocket and burns his fingers. So he runs, away from the direction he was supposed to go, away from the North his destiny had made especially for him.

The little compass is the last one. He had it hidden in an old shoe box, like meaningless rubbish we all keep just because we think we may need them some day. It made the small tool look cheaper, non-valuable. It made him feel more ordinary. He was just Edward, a good student, a nice quiet average guy.

He had tried hard to hide everything extraordinary about him. He had covered his more than good looks and his natural colors. He had kept under great control the power of his mind. He had almost "deleted" everything about where he came from, about who he was.

But the compass was always there.

A few hours ago it had woken, for the second time in his life, showing him the direction to a choice he had avoided too long.

A/N: No beta as usual. I'm close to post another chapter for Habits Of A Day but this idea came so ...
