Slowly he went to the podium. Still smaller than everyone else in the room, still just a kid in their minds, he seemed even younger and thiner in the unfamiliar uniform he was wearing.

He was limping

With every step he dragged his right leg a bit. He had a black eye

When he passed Arthur his eyes hardened for a moment. He didn't looked at his former father just quickened his steps.

Arthur starred at the blank paper in front of him. His fingers tightened around the pen.

Francis smiled at him. Friendly, warm and filled with fondness.

Alfred's face stayed straight.

He reached the podium. Started fumbling in his pockets. Put out a wrinkeld paper.

Then he looked up.

The other nations watched him silently. Alfred opened his mouth. And closed it again.

Someone giggled.

His face got red.

Again he tried to speak, again he closed his mouth. The laughter got louder, someone started whispering.

Alfreds hand started shaking. He closed his eyes, breathed.

Breathed again.

Calm down, a voice whispered in his head.

Just be calm.

Arthur, he thought. His eyes still closed, he started speaking.

'That' he lifted the paper. 'is my country.'

His voice was shaking slightly.

Calm. The voice became quiet. Vanished.

He opened his eyes. The room was silent. He turned around, opened the paper and attached it to the wall.

It was a map of America. There were three red letters written on the top.

'U.S.A' suddenly his voice was firm. He looked in the crowd, looked at Arthur, who was starring at him, stunned.

His body tensed, he straightened up.

'The United States.' and the words echoed from the wall 'of America.'
