Sorrowful Logan's POV:

I slowly tucked my camouflaged uniform and other important equipment into my dark green army duffle bag. I then walked over to the window at the side of my bed. The view outside was incredible. As the sun set over the tall mountain range, it left the sky looking an orange-pinkish color. The trees swayed lightly at the soft breeze and tiny forest creatures scuttled across the forest floor looking for food or shelter. Birds flew overhead, going back to their nest. Back to their family.

I closed my eyes, blocking out the beautiful scene. It was too much to look at such beauty and happiness. I was heading to war and that surely is not a happy thought. I pictured the horrible scene in my head. The blood and gore splattering all over the ground, Bodies of your fellow soldiers falling to the ground, dead, and the sound of gunfire and earsplitting screams of terror. My eyes suddenly flickered open and the horrifying picture went away. I then closed both blinds on the window and turned away. All of a sudden I heard a faint knock on my door. I called for whomever to come on in. The door creaked open and there stood Kendall, James, and Carlos.

All three of them had tears streaming down their faces and were all holding cards and flowers. James was the first to speak. "L-l-logan…" He stammered. His lip trembled and he stared at me with red and watery eyes. "Please Logan, please don't leave!" He pleaded. I came up to him and placed my hands gently on his shoulders. "James, it's okay, man. I'm just going off to a small war. It's my job anyway." Kendall and Carlos broke off into tears and James just continued to stare at me. I gave all three of them hugs and we also had a long, quiet group hug. After my farewells to them they left and I picked up my duffle bag. I made my way to the door when I heard shuffling near the window. I placed my bag on the bed and opened the blinds on the window. There were about twenty "Don't go" or "Please don't leave us" cards and about a dozen flowers and chocolates. I looked down sadly at the pile of gifts and picked up one of the flowers and smelled it. The sweet smell hit my nostrils and I stared up at the twilight sky. I sat up and picked up my bag once again. I sighed slowly as I headed out the door.

Epilogue: Exactly 1 year later…

Everyone from the Palm Woods crowded around James as he held up a letter that was in the mail from the U.S. Army. As he opened it, Kendall and Carlos looked anxiously over his shoulder and everyone else held their breaths, praying that this was not bad news. But, they were wrong. James took the white, neatly printed letter out and began to read out loud, "Dear Friends and Family members of Soldier Logan Mitchell, We are sad to say that Logan had brutally been killed in combat while fighting in the war. We will send his uniform and belongings immediately and the funeral will be scheduled sometime this week. We will grieve Logan and miss him dearly. R.I.P. Logan will forever be in our hearts."
