So this idea came from Pinterest, a pin about what would happen if Ten and Rose and Eleven and River went on a double date. This isn't quite what that pin imagined, but I'm very happy with it. I hope it makes you laugh and smile.

So, timelines. For Eleven, this is between Day of the Doctor (saving Gallifrey) and Time of the Doctor (regeneration). River Song after the Pandorica Opens when the universe was rebooted and she crashed her parents wedding to give Amy the blue diary. Ten and Rose have just finished Fear Her.

River Song wasn't sure how she knew the Tardis had landed in her cell, especially since the invisibility shields were up and the brakes were off, but she knew it was there. Smiling, she reached behind her, finding the handle instantly. She pulled it open and stepped inside.

"Happy Birthday!" the Doctor said with a grin. He was dressed in his usual outfit, but with a classier bow-tie that did nothing to help his outfit.

"Is that today?"

"Yes, unless the Tardis has taken me to the wrong day, which she usually does, but this time I'm 87 percent sure its right." A fuse blew behind him in a spark of electricity. "56," he amended, frowning slightly but without looking backwards.

"Make it a hundred," River said. "You've made it to A birthday, at any rate."

"Okay, ten points to Doctor! Go get yourself something nice from the wardrobe, we'll be arriving soon. How would you like to see the 2012 London Olympics?"

"Sounds lovely! You've been their before, I expect?"

"Been there? Honey, I carried the torch!"

"Well, no spoilers."

"No, ma'am! I mean, yes ma'am...I think."

"Just shut up and fly," River said, running lightly down the corridors.

She managed to keep her balance as the Tardis jerked around, and reached the wardrobe safely. She found a rather pretty purple dress that wasn't too formal, and returned to the Doctor, who hadn't changed.

"At least one of us will be classy and well dressed," River said as the Doctor held the door open for her.

"Hey! I changed my bow...tie..."

He stopped dead in his tracks, staring ahead along the street. It wasn't very crowded, and he could easily see the tall man in a trench coat with spiky brown hair, and the blonde girl walking next to him.

"River...I'm sorry I…I forgot. I didn't mean to run into them. But I have to talk to…"

River studied the retreating figures, and she realized who they were. "Is that…"

But the Doctor couldn't hold it in any longer. "ROSE!" he yelled, taking off down the street.

"Doctor, no!" she cried.

River tried to follow, but in her heels she couldn't run very fast. The tenth Doctor turned around and stepped in front of Rose defensively, just before Eleven nearly crashed into her.

"Stop right there," Ten said, holding out his sonic threateningly. "Who are you?"

"I'm you, from the future."

Ten looked at him critically. "Well, the dress sense is definitely bad enough."

Eleven's mouth dropped open. "I'm wearing a bow-tie! You've worn bow-ties, don't deny it."

"Yes, but black bow-ties in a fancy tuxedo. It looked good, didn't it Rose?"

"Yeah, course you did," Rose said quickly, eyeing Eleven with suspicion.

Eleven grinned at her as River came running up.

"You can't do this!" she exclaimed crossly, tugging on his arm. Then her eyes fell on Ten. "Oh my word…you're so young!'

"Oh no." Eleven clapped his hand to his face. "I just remembered. You two aren't supposed to meet yet, I'll have to erase your memories."

"You'll what?" River asked, looking at him sharply.

"Yeah, that's not gonna happen," Ten said, grabbing his arm roughly and dragging him away. "Come with me. Rose, stay there with the hair stylist."

"Ooh, hair stylist. I rather like that," River said thoughtfully.

"Shut up, River," Eleven said, resigning himself to his fate.

Ten dragged Eleven around the corner of a building complex.

"Who are you, really?" he snapped.

"I promise, I'm you! I'm the next regeneration."

"I thought we were supposed to keep our romances to the privacy of our own regenerations."

"Hey! Rose was Nine's girl first and you know it," Eleven said. "He loved her so much he controlled the regeneration so she wouldn't get hurt. You know what happened when you regenerated? You had no one, I destroyed the Tardis coming into this world."

"Yeah, yeah, so who's your date?"

"My wife River. She's fine with it, she knows about Rose."

Ten raised an eyebrow. "Seems fishy to me. What happened? What are you not telling me?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Yes…you…do," Ten said slowly. Eleven forgot how scary he had been when Rose was involved. "How did she leave? Where is she?"

"I can't tell you. Against the rules."

"Whose rules?"

"OUR rules." Eleven tried his best to look older and more intimidating to his younger self.

"You're going to erase my memories anyway."

Eleven thought about this. He remembered when he had saved Gallifrey, he had told Ten about Trenzalore. But this was a younger Ten, untouched by heartbreak. No wonder River thought he was so young.

"I suppose it doesn't matter," Eleven said with a sigh. "You won't remember it, so there's no stopping it." He paused, unsure how to continue. Ten raised an eyebrow questioningly. "Rose...falls into a parallel world," Eleven finished, hanging his head.

"That's impossible."

"You know it isn't, you've been there! She gets trapped there, and even though it's better than dying in the void with the daleks and cybermen…" He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "Anyway, I traveled on my own for a few years, met some new people and traveled with them. Meanwhile, Rose joined Torchwood and built a machine that allowed her to come back."

"Did she?" Ten asked, grinning like an idiot.

"I know," Eleven said, grinning back. "It was amazing. Only…during that adventure there was a metacrisis regeneration from our hand, and since we obviously couldn't have two of us roaming around…I was forced to leave him and Rose in the parallel world before closing the walls forever."

Ten's face dropped and he looked at the ground. The two Doctors could hear the women laughing around the corner, and knew they had to finish this conversation.

"Why couldn't she have stayed with us?" Ten asked.

"The Metacrisis was half-human. He has all our memories but only one heart. Just one life. He'll get to grow old with her."

"But why can't we have that!" Ten snapped in agony.

"I don't know. I wish I could change things..."

"Well I can. Tell me what I need to do!"

Eleven put a hand on his shoulder comfortingly. "Nothing. You can't stop it even if you know ahead of time."

"Don't do this to me," Ten pleaded. "I can't let her be trapped there. At least help me save her that time. Let her stay with us until she needs to go with the Metacrisis, please!"

"I'm sorry. She needs to do this one herself."

"Well she's already absorbed the TARDIS. She's already lost her father. She's already gone through so much, it's not fair!"

"I know."

"Then why won't you help me? What's so important that she absolutely has to get trapped there again?"

Eleven was silent for a long time, trying to suppress the painful memories of that day on the beach in Norway. Ten crossed his arms, waiting impatiently. They locked eyes, Ten trying to stare him down. Finally, Eleven sighed and relented.

"You are."

"What?"

"That's what it finally takes for her to finally realize it. To finally say the unspoken."

"The unspoken what?" Ten asked, even more confused.

"You know. Don't try to deny it at this point. Our...connection."

Slowly, Ten's façade began to slip away. He shivered slightly.

"There are things she needs to know, so she can tell him. Please, just let me speak to her, just the two of us."

"Alright," Ten said quietly. "What am I supposed to do while this is going on?"

"Chat with River. You've already seen each other, so the damage is done. You won't be able to do anything worse. Just don't insult her hair, she hates it when we do that."

"But it's so big," Ten said, trying to get back into his carefree attitude before he faced the women.

"It's full of spoilers," Eleven said with a grin.

River didn't like the look Rose was giving her. While River was older and had seen multiple regenerations of the Doctor, Rose was young and hot-headed. River wasn't quite sure she understood the concept of loving the Doctor yet.

"So, Rose Tyler. I've heard quite a lot about you."

"Really? I haven't heard anything about you."

"I'm from the Doctor's future, my Doctor is your Doctor's future. By the way, have you met Sarah Jane Smith yet?"

"Yeah, once."

"Lovely woman," River said. "So you remember..."

"Who are you, exactly?" Rose interrupted.

"I'm River Song."

"Yes, I gathered that much, but who are you to the Doctor?"

River laughed. "You are as smart as he said. I'm his wife."

"Oh." Rose looked down at the ground. "Where am I in all this, then? Because I'll have you know that I'm going to travel with him forever."

"Rose, you have to understand. You could travel with the Doctor for a long time, but it would take hundreds and hundreds of years for each regeneration to age, and he has so many more regenerations left. He's practically immortal. You can't expect to be the only one he loves. And he did love you."

"He married you."

"When you make a new friend, do you love your old friends any less?"

"No…"

"Of course not. You love each of them in different ways, and you don't forget the ones that move away."

"But how do you know?" Rose asked, her voice cracking slightly. River could tell that she desperately wanted to know.

"Because I can see it in his eyes," she said. "I see it every time we pass a garden and he sees the roses. I see it when he desperately tries to avoid landing on Christmas or getting caught up in holidays. I see it when he refuses to go to an ordinary mall with me. I've seen it when he scans graffiti walls, looking for another sign of Bad Wolf. They're little things...but they are there. He still loves you."

Rose exhaled shakily. "He hasn't even said that to me yet. Neither of us have."

"Do you?" River asked simply.

Rose looked at her strangely. "Is this not weird for you?"

River laughed lightly. "Not compared with the rest of my life."

Sighing, Rose glanced over her shoulder to make sure the Doctor was out of ear-shot. "Yeah," she said quietly. "I guess I do."

"New realization is it?"

"Yeah. I've barely had time to process it. A lot's happened in the past few weeks, between the Wire, and the black hole, and now that alien possessing Chloe..."

"That is a lot," River said, nodding.

"We nearly lost each other so many times...it made me think..." She turned suddenly intense. "River, what happened to me?"

"That I can't tell you I'm afraid. Spoilers."

"Why was your Doctor so anxious to see me?"

"It's been a long time," River said calmly, trying to allay Rose's fears. But she could tell Rose was smart, and quickly catching on. Before she had to delay further, the two Doctors returned.

"There's a cafe just down the road," Eleven said. "We can get tables there."

"Alonsy!" Ten said, feigning cheerfulness.

Rose looked concerned but took his hand as they walked to the cafe.

"Oh, look, here's a table outside!" Eleven said. "River, why don't you stay here with this one. Rose and I will go inside for a little chat."

"What if we want something to eat?" Ten asked, slightly offended. "Or coffee?"

"You don't need coffee," River said firmly.

Ten blinked, surprised. "Alright, mum," he said under his breath.

"I heard that."

"Sorry." He looked around but Eleven and Rose had already slipped inside and got a table. Sighing, he sat down with a pout. "So according to me, we're not supposed to have met each other yet."

"Apparently not. I hate having my memory wiped," she said with a sigh. "Especially if you've still got that memory worm."

"Really? I've always wanted a memory worm. What do they look like?"

"I can't remember," River sighed. "It seems that each time I got to look at one, I had to use it."

"Oh. Well...maybe we don't have to use it this time."

"Doctor," River said sternly. "We have to. None of us should be here having these conversations right now. It's interfering with time streams."

"Oh, what do you know about meddling in time streams."

"I married you."

"Good point." He scratched the back of his neck, thinking. "I just...I need a way to remember how to save Rose. And I get the feeling we're running out of time. That's a feeling I hardly ever get."

"My, this is a big day for you, isn't it?"

"I just can't let her go. She can't be stuck there by herself."

"She'll be fine. She's a survivor. She can take care of herself."

"She's had to do that her whole life," Ten said quietly. "I don't want her to anymore."

"Look," River said. "There are things you can't always control. I know that scares you and you're not used to it. But some things can't be stopped. You can't save everyone all the time. She doesn't die. She's just going to be gone for a little while. And then it ends up for the best."

"For her. Not for me. But it never does."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt," a waiter said. "Have you ordered?"

"No, not yet," River said. "Can we have a couple of scones, please? And some Rosewater Tea would be lovely."

"That's my favorite," Ten said as the waiter went back inside.

"I know."

He was silent for a minute. "Do you think I could fake touching the worm?"

River smiled sadly. "No."

Rose and Eleven sat across from each other in slightly awkward silence. Eleven knew there were things he had to tell her, but he wasn't quite sure how to bring them up without scaring her. In the end, it was Rose who broke the ice.

"You seem familiar. Not just in a Doctorish way," she added. "You do seem like him, but it's more than that."

Eleven laughed. "Did I really make that little of an impression on you? Who else do you know that wears a tweed coat and a bow-tie? Or maybe it would help if I was wearing a Stetson, or a fez?"

Rose's eyes widened. "Mr. Smith! Oh…"

"Yep. We meet again, little Rosie."

Rose remembered, for the first time in years, her old history and math tutor John Smith. He had convinced Jackie that Rose's grades were slowly slipping, and that he would tutor her for free. Jackie had been very hesitant since he seemed a loopy, but Rose took an instant liking to him. And it was John Smith who convinced Jackie to let Rose onto the gymnastics team.

"I'm afraid you didn't do much good," she said. "I dropped out of high school."

"Yeah, but if you had kept at it, you would have gotten a better job, and we never would have met. By the way, do you remember Clara Oswald?"

"The English teacher?"

"That's the one. She was my companion too. Still is, in fact. Although now she teaches at Coal Hill High School, so she only travels part time."

Rose looked at him thoughtfully. "You've been on your own again," she said.

"How can you tell?"

"Because you're masking the sadness, but it still shows through. It reminds me of when we first met. You tried to be funny, and sassy and you made horrible jokes, but I could see it in your eyes."

Eleven smiled. "Clara's part-time, River's doing time in jail…oh nothing to worry about, I promise. She was put in a robotic suit, and…it's really complicated. Oh...sorry, I forgot. Did you guys get to...?"

"Yes, we talked. She explained."

"Ah, that's good. One thing off my list. But yes, I've been mostly on my own for a thousand years."

Rose was shocked. "A thousand?"

"Yeah, I've more than doubled my age since we last met," Eleven said with a grin.

"So what was I, a midlife crisis?"

Eleven laughed again. "No, no. Time Lord's don't have midlife crises. But if I did, it would be fighting the Time War. Speaking of, there's something you need to know. Several things, in fact, but the most important thing is this: I didn't destroy Gallifrey."

"You didn't?" Rose asked, confused.

"No. I used thirteen of my regenerations and Tardises and flew around Gallifrey, transporting it to another universe, like a Time Lord portrait. But because my time stream crossed itself multiple times, only myself and the thirteenth Doctor can remember doing it. Everyone else thinks I destroyed it."

"So it can come back?"

"Only if I can find it, see. That's the catch."

"That's brilliant!"

"I know," he smirked.

"So, you want me to tell him?" she asked, gesturing to Ten and River's table.

"No, not yet. This is the part where it gets really complicated because you can't know too much about your future. Let's see, this is the 2012 Olympics, which means you saved me from the drawing…" He thought aloud. "Do you know about the Cybermen yet?"

"Of course. How could I forget?"

"So. The alternate dimension. I named it Pete's World, after your dad. There are going to be three times in all where you get to visit it. And on the third time, that's when you can tell him."

"Will it be a long time?"

Eleven studied her carefully. "It's not long until your second visit, I'm afraid. You can't tell that to him, either. He can't know that the borders will reopen. Otherwise, he'll put two and two together, and fight to keep them closed. If he does, and I think he's already figuring it out…that could have disastrous consequences for you."

"I can't stop him from trying to close them."

"Of course he has to close them. But he can't know that their reopening in the first place, not until…look, just don't mention it, ok?"

"Right."

"I'm going to write all this down so you won't forget it," Eleven said, taking out a napkin and a pen. "You have to keep this safely on your person at all times, understand?"

"Yeah."

"Don't set it down, don't even put it in your purse."

"I don't generally carry purses..."

"I know. That's why I'm telling you not to put it there. There are things he must know when the time comes. It'll make more sense when you come to it, but it happens unexpectedly. Don't worry. You'll be alright and make it through. And the ending is just spectacular. You'll be just fine."

Rose was quiet while she wrote, guessing that something big was going to happen. Something drastic and very bad. But she knew not to ask. The more she knew, the worse it would be. Besides, she could tell he didn't want to think too much about it.

"And another thing," Eleven said after a moment, still writing down the details of Gallifrey's fate. "River Song isn't her real name. It's Melody Pond. I mean Williams. Her parents were some of my best friends and companions. Amy and Rory Williams. Amy's maiden name was Pond, so I just called them the Ponds."

"Amelia Pond?" Rose asked, startled. "Tomboy, wild red hair, and a beautiful Scottish accent?"

"Yes!" Eleven exclaimed, equally surprised. He stopped writing for a moment and looked up. "Did you know her?"

"We were in therapy together, both of us were obsessed with you and our mothers thought we were crazy. I only saw her for a little while. She bit her psychiatrist and they got thrown out."

Eleven laughed. "She went through four in all. Anyway, she and Rory are good people in a crisis. Well, Rory was a bit of a wimp until he guarded Amy's box for 2,000 years, but still. He'll do. Look them up when you get back to Pete's World."

"Ok, I will."

"Right, I'd better be going. I'm taking River to see the Olympics for her birthday…I wanted to talk to you about everything myself before anyone panicked, but he's a little territorial when it comes to you."

"I've noticed," Rose said with a grin. "That time during Queen Elizabeth's coronation, with the Wire, and my face was…sucked off, I still had my ears. I could hear everything."

"Oh yeah, so you did!" Eleven grinned. "I was really mad that day."

"Even I was frightened, and I wasn't the one in trouble!"

Eleven gave her the napkin, which she folded neatly and tucked inside her bra. He smiled weakly, but his eyes were big and sad. Rose looked at him with sympathy.

"You love me, don't you?" she asked, surprised at how calm she was.

"Him or me?" Eleven asked.

"Both."

He was silent for a moment, trembling slightly. "Yes," he said at last.

Rose nodded, feeling her heart skip a beat. "Any...Any advice?" she asked nervously.

Eleven chuckled softly. "Live the most of every day. Don't take it for granted."

"I don't."

"We all do on some level, Rose. That being said, I'll let you two be reunited." He started to stand but Rose stayed seated, staring intently at the salt shaker.

"He doesn't go with me, does he?"

Eleven froze. "What do you mean?"

"To dad's world. On our second visit it's just me, isn't it?"

"I can't tell you anything else," he said slowly. "If I do, the whole story will come out. You can't know that."

"Because I'll mess it up?"

"Because it'll scare you."

"You don't know that."

"Rose." He bent over and looked right into her eyes. "It still scares me," he whispered. "It still hurts me over a thousand years later."

"Alright, this is scaring me more than not telling me," Rose said, feeling her heart start to race.

"It ends well for you, I promise."

"Spoilers," River said.

Eleven jumped, not having noticed her coming in. "I thought I told you to wait outside."

"Well, the waiter brought us some really bad scones so I came in to complain. You are on dangerous ground," she warned. "I think it's time we all part ways."

Sighing, Eleven nodded. "You're right. As always, you're right. I'm sorry, Rose. I've told you more than I should."

"Everything alright?" Ten asked, joining them.

"Yeah, fine," Rose said, standing. "It's time to go."

"Great, if we hurry and leave straight from here I think we can make it to see the syncronized swimming..."

"Memory worm," River said.

"Shh! Why'd you have to say that?"

"I've already said too much to both of you," Eleven said. "It needs to be done."

They all walked silently back to the TARDIS.

"It looks new," Ten said. "I like the color."

Eleven snapped smugly, and the doors swung open. Ten nodded appreciatively as he and Rose stepped inside.

"I don't like the interior, but that's a nice move. Can I at least remember that?"

"Don't worry," Eleven said, flipping switches and turning dials. "River will tell you one day."

River looked surprised. "Oh I will, will I?"

"All in good...well, all in time anyway," Eleven said.

Shrugging, River opened a compartment in the wall and carefully extracted the memory worm jar.

"Ooh, that's interesting," Ten said. "Rose, I want one."

"Don't think you're going to distract your way out of this," River said firmly.

Frowning, Ten turned to his older self. "Does she boss you around this way?"

"Occasionally," Eleven laughed. "But I enjoy it. Now, I've brought us back to the same place we were at first, about half an hour later. You won't even notice the time difference. Rose, remember that you can't tell me anything about this meeting. Just pretend that nothing ever happened here. Think of something to say to start a new conversation so there's no awkward gap. It'll distract me enough that I won't put two and two together."

"Got it," Rose said, straightening herself in mental preparation.

"Well, I look forward to meeting you again, River Song," Ten said, taking her hand bowing. Rose coughed. "Right, right. Coming."

They stepped onto the street, almost exactly where they had been when Eleven spotted them. Up ahead, they could see themselves turning the corner towards the coffee shop. River stood next to them holding the jar with the memory worm. Ten looked at it, disgusted.

"Do I have to?" he asked.

"I do too, we're in this together," River said.

"Nothing is going to make me want to touch that thing."

"Too bad," River countered.

"Goodbye, Rose," Eleven said, trying to be careless.

It didn't work. His voice cracked and he looked down. Rose looked at Ten for a moment, then stepped inside the TARDIS and threw herself on Eleven, hugging him tightly.

"Love ya," she whispered, so low that Ten couldn't hear.

Eleven held her close, blinking back tears. "You're...going to be...amazing," he whispered, barely able to get the words out.

Rose pulled back so she could look him in the eyes. Then, without thinking, she kissed him gently. Outside, River gasped softly. Ten's jawline hardened as he clenched his teeth angrily.

"Thank you," Eleven whispered.

Rose nodded and smiled, then broke away to rejoin Ten. The look on his face made her pause.

"I retract my last statement," he said. "Now I do want to touch it."

He thrust his hand in almost violently. Rose leaped forward, trying to stop him.

"Wait!" she cried. "Not yet!"

"It's too late, I'm sorry," River yelled, pulling the jar away. "Just act normal."

Rose took his hand, unable to look at him as she tried to compose herself. She was shaking, both from the kiss and the shock on Ten's face. River and Eleven quickly sidestepped and backed inside the invisible Tardis, closing the door quickly. Through the camera, they saw Ten shake his head and look around in a daze.

"Did I miss something?" he asked, clearly confused.

"No," Rose lied, pulling him forward. "I expect you just zoned out for a moment. Oh, did you see Gabby Douglas' moves last night? I know I should be supporting our gymnasts, but she's good. I wish I could have that skill."

"Yeah…" Ten said, still confused. "I mean you are! You're very good. You saved me from the plastic when we first met."

"I remember," Rose said with a laugh. She led him at a brisk walk, making sure to move past the side street of the cafe before anyone saw them.

"Doctor?" River said from behind. "Why is your memory worm out?"

The Doctor turned and saw River standing with the worm and the gauntlet at her feet. He snapped off the camera and carefully extracted the worm, replacing it in the jar.

"We ran into a bit of trouble," he said, not wanting to lie. "I can't tell you what. But You agreed to the wipe, voluntarily. Don't worry about it, let's go see the games. I heard America's Gabby Douglas is fantastic."
