Confusing Emotion

Kid Sebastian X OC

Chapter 1 : Rescue

It was cold. So very painfully cold. The young demon could barely even remember what "warmth" or "heat" even felt like. What was this horrible feeling? It was as though every inch of his body was being stabbed with ice. Not even his blood felt warm anymore. This young demon wasn't unused to suffering. He could remember a distant time when he'd been human, and been beaten on a regular basis for stealing food to fill his constantly empty stomach. He'd been attacked by dogs quite often. Only the cats were nice to him. On the rare occasions he'd managed to get his hands on a small portion of meat, he'd share what he could with them. After dying and becoming a demon, he'd often filled his belly with the souls of the humans who'd abused him as revenge.

It had been about a century since he'd finished off the last of his former tormentors, but that hadn't stopped him from devouring souls unbidden. He didn't want to feel that awful pain of starvation ever again. But this cold... it was worse than any hunger pains he'd ever had. "H-Help... me... someone... please..." he whimpered feebly, before slipping into a dreaming state similar to a coma - he was fully aware of his surroundings, but unable to react to anything. He was now about as helpless as a newborn babe.

He'd been this way for about half an hour, and was beginning to reside himself over to death, when he heard footsteps drawing nearer and nearer. He could smell a human female's soul - one like he'd never smelled before. There was so much kindness, yet, so much pain. He felt waves of suffering such as he'd never imagined nor experienced wash over him from the depths of her soul, so much that his eyes nearly welled with tears. They would have, had they not frozen shut. He then felt warm arms wrap around his weakened body, as well as some fabric that the female must have used to shelter herself from the cold. He groaned weakly with relief as the warmth of the stranger's body seeped into his own, soothing the pain a little. "Don't worry, young one," a soft, gentle voice whispered. "You'll be warm soon." That was the last thing he heard before he lost consciousness altogether.
