She was a mute. The pitch of her voice was silenced. Forced to watch Peeta wrap his muscular arms around a blonde haired girl. Apparently she had just whispered hilarious into his ear since Peeta roared with laughter. Water soon filled Katniss' eyes as the new couple enjoyed their moment together. Happy. That's what they were. As if their surroundings suddenly vanished and nothing else mattered. Her heart immediately cramped into a tight space, hidden away from her reach. All of the happiness was swept from her world. Katniss trembled with bitter despair as she took a step closer towards Peeta. But the shape of Johanna and Haymitch stopped her. Both were near Peeta, shaking their heads in unison.

"What are you doing here?" Katniss' voice shook with pure hatred and pain. "We're here to stop you." Johanna replied while Katniss wiped her tears away. Stop her from what? The pity party she was having? "I was just-" Katniss began but soon Haymitch shook his head and placed his hand on her shoulder blade. "Let him go, Sweetheart. He's happy. It's what you wanted." On cue, Peeta erupted in another laugh. Even on their good days, Katniss had never made him laugh like that.

"But I'm not." Like always, Katniss' selfishness won. The goal was for her to feel miserable, heartbroken, punished and over the past days of her being away from Peeta, that's exactly how she felt. The nights were the worse, countless nightmares if she slept or her waiting until morning came. Her mornings consisted of regret and her lying in bed. "Katniss. He's happy. Isn't that what you want?" Johanna nodded towards the boy with the bread just as he was leaning in to kiss his newly found love. Her stomach twisted along with the blood draining from her face as she was forced to watch Peeta kiss the unknown girl.

Without warning, Katniss began to walk towards them. She struggled but she managed. But Johanna was much quicker and was just in time to block her away from Peeta. "Get out of my way!" It was impossible that she was physically unable to get past the tiny victor. "No Katniss! You have to let him go! He's happy, dammit! Let him go!" None of what Johanna said reached Katniss' ears as she continued to fight to get through. She was like a child that has just been told she couldn't eat candy. "Peeta! Peeta! I'm sorry! I take it back! I take it all back! I love you! Please, Peeta!" With the amount of sobs and cracking of her vocal cord, her voice was impossible to hear. Just then Peeta and the girl in his arms began to walk away hand in hand.

The weight of her feet slipped before her as she sank onto the floor. Her knees were brought up towards her chest while she watched Peeta walk further away and out of her reach.

"Peeta!" Katniss snapped out of a nightmare. Draped in tears and sweat, she breathed heavily as she recollected her thoughts. It was just a nightmare. Her hand then extended on the vacant side of the bed. Usually Peeta was lying next to her, ready to comfort her when something like this happened. Now she had no one. Everything was meaningless. Katniss remained laying down, watching the empty spot next to her as she cried herself to sleep. Knowing that her nightmare would soon become her future.
