A/N : Its been a while since I've gone onto this site, so I figured I'd throw something out there instead of studying for midterms. I've got a basic idea of where its going, and I've already got a few short chapters done. How often I update will depend on what kind of response this gets. I'll be taking suggestions. Warning: It'll get darker as it progresses and it might just devolve into smut, so be prepared!
Chapter 1
Every time she woke up on that cold steel slab they called a bed, she found it that much harder to convice herself it was all a dream.
She'd been here, in Konoha's prison, for only a week now, but it seemed like an eternity. The time before this cold, dark place was like another life,
happening to another person. All there was for her now was this prison. And if the prosecutor had his way, that would never change.
Again, the realization of what she'd done hit her square in the stomach, and the bile started rising in her throat.
"Sasuke is dead."
The words forced their way out of her between sobs that wracked her body like physical blows. "It's all my fault" she whispered.
xXx
A light breeze swept through the trees, winding through her hair and biting through her clothes, making her shiver. The leaf protector band she wore on her head suddenly felt heavy and cold. As she reached up to readjust it, a movement to her right caught her attention. She froze.
"Hello?" Sakura called out into the night, looking around with growing unease. The streets of Konoha were empty and quiet, dust from the road swirling gently in the wind. Small, lit paper lanterns threw warm light from the buildings, but the small amount of illumination they provided suddenly ceased to be a familiar comfort. For every pinprick of light, there were a hundred shadows.
A movement to her left -
Sakura's hand flew to a kunai from her belt, throwing it up to ward of a blow that never came.
Her heart beating madly in her chest, Sakura forced herself to resume a calm steady pace down the road. She gripped the kunai tightly, her knuckles turning white. In a matter of seconds her peaceful, safe home had turned sour around her. An enemy ninja would have just attacked her, he'd have no reason to hide once it was obvious that she'd noticed him. But if it wasn't an enemy...
Sakura knew she was a capable enough ninja, but if her instincts were correct, this wasn't the kind of fight she'd been trained for...
Sakura was smart enough not to lead a potential threat right to her front door, so instead of continuing down the road to her home, she turned left towards...who? Kakashi-sensei? The hokage? She didn't want them to think she was a paranoid idiot if it turned out to be nothing. Her thoughts turned her body towards a house she'd wanted to visit in the first place.
Sasuke's.
