Severus Snape shoved kids out of his way as he made his way down the stairwell, on his way to the Great Hall for the evening meal. He heard cries of protest, but he could really care less. The stupid kids should know not to get in his way in the first place. As he reached the bottom of the stairs and began walking down the hallway, he noticed a group of kids all huddled together. Perfect, he grinned. Troublemakers. Time to unleash the anger I've had kept up all day. He stormed over towards the students, a malicious look on his face that he usually reserved just for the Potter boy. As soon as the students saw him, they scattered, leaving behind a girl sitting on the floor.
"And may I as why you find yourself on the floor in the middle of a hallway miss..." He stopped when he realized he had never seen this student at Hogwarts before. He pressed his lips together. She must be a first year. He would have remembered her if she had been here. The girl quickly picked herself off the floor and brushed her robe off. A Griffyndor. Obviously.
"Idalia. Idalia Velez. I'm new." She said, trying to keep the terror out of her voice. But terror was a special treat to Snape, he could smell it on anyone. Snape took a good second to look at the girl. She was a little on the short side, with curly short hair and brown eyes. However, despite her height, Snape could tell she was in fact not a first year. She looked like a third year, at least. It was the eyes, he thought. Those eyes have seen things they shouldn't.
"And what year are you, Miss Velez?" He drawled. She gave him a confused look.
"Well, they don't know actually. Up until recently I've been homeschooled by my parents. They didn't think Hogwarts was the place for me. But then things got difficult..." She stopped herself and shook her head. "Well anyway, I'm here now, and Dumbledore just doesn't seem to know where to place me. I've been placed in a house, but I haven't started any classes. I think he wants to give me a test or something to see what year I'll be." She explained. Snape raised his eyebrows.
"How old are you, Miss Velez?" He asked the girl.
"I'll be eighteen in just two weeks time."
"Well then you should be placed with the fifth years, like everyone else your age. I'll see to it that you are. Now please, if you don't mind, escort yourself to the Great Hall for this evenings meal." He said kind of snippily, and then walked away from the girl, leaving her confused. Not that Snape wasn't confused himself. He never went out of his way for the likes of a Gryffindor, what brought him to act on an impulse today? He just shrugged it off. Perhaps he had seen a shred of Slytherin in her.
Severus entered the Great Hall, obviously drawing a few heads because he was late thanks to the stupid children. He sighed to himself and made his way to the head table. Dumbledore hated when he was late, so he was sure he'd never hear the end of it. When he got to the table and sat down, his eyes immediately darting towards the girl from the hallway. He looked to see who she was sitting with, and when he saw her giggling next to Potter, his face scrunched up. Of course Potter grabbed her the second he saw her. Git. Now she'll have bigoted opinions of what Hogwarts is, instead of getting to experience it herself. Unless he did something to give the girl her own experience, and what a thought that was.
