It was a very sad day in the kingdom of Omashu. The king, Bumi… he was dying.
King Bumi laid on his bed with some servants around him and his best friend Aang. The avatar held Bumi's hand while tears teased his eyes.
Bumi chuckled, "What's wrong Aang? Dust in your eye?"
The bald monk just frowned, "I can't believe I'm losing you."
"Aw Aang, as much as I hate to say it-I'm old. I have to go sometime." The king said simply.
"Y-Yeah but… I never thought it would be so soon…" Aang said while some tears rolled down his cheeks, "I was hoping you would be able to meet my first born child before you go."
The king laughed before having a small coughing fit, "You know what? I promise to meet him."
"How?" Aang said sadly, "You don't have much time left."
"True but when I pass into the spirit world I'll have plenty of time to spare." The old man smiled at his best friend, "I'll keep my promise Aang."
The younger man nodded and smiled while more tears rolled down his cheeks.
Bumi yawned loudly and said, "Boy I'm tired…"
"I know Bumi, you should rest…" Aang said softly.
"That sounds… like a plan…" Bumi said softly and closed his eyes.
The king's breathing was very soft. The avatar held his best friend's hand. Bumi's breathing stopped after a few minutes and his hand became limp.
His servants began to cry as Aang finally let go of his hand.
"Goodbye Bumi… you mad genius…" Aang said softly and kissed his best friend's forehead.
One of the female servants slowly pulled Bumi's blanket over his body and said, "Long live our gracious king Bumi…"
"Long live…" Aang muttered before leaving the room.
He walked down the castle's hallways remembering his time with Bumi.
He remembered how they used the mail shoots as a super slide, he remembered when they ate lots of food together, he remembered when Bumi sang at his wedding-boy was her terrible.
That last memory made him laugh a little.
"Oh Bumi… you were such a crazy guy…" Aang muttered softly before tears once again rolled down his face, "I can't believe you're gone…"
The avatar fell onto his knees and started to cry hard.
It is always hard to say goodbye to a friend.
