"Sincerity works sometimes Agent Dinozzo. You should try it." -Chaplin Burke
He shouldn't be shocked to see Chaplain Burke waiting for him when he steps off the plane. Though it's been a few years since he saw her, they had gotten along well when they worked together. She was the one Chaplin he had admired, which is what he had told Gibbs once. He has a feeling she has been sent by him.
As he walks towards her, she stands and he can see the sadness flash through her eyes when she realizes he's alone.
"Agent DiNozzo."
"Chaplin."
"She's not coming back." He shakes his head and she studies him. "I'm sorry."
"So am I."
"You tried." He nods.
"Yeah…I did." They stand there for a moment, nothing but the sounds of others walking by them. "Aren't you going to ask me how I feel?" He asks, looking at her.
She gives him a smirk. "Agent DiNozzo, I'm not a psychologist. Besides, it doesn't take a doctor to tell how you feel."
He chews his lip for a moment before speaking. "I told her I could change with her." He whispers and his eyes glaze over.
She smiles as she remembers her once telling him sincerity is the best approach. "I see you took my advice." Silence once again surrounds them. "I'm here if you need someone to listen." He nods. "And remember, sometimes things have a way of finding their way back to you."
She turns and as he watches her walk away his phone buzzes. He opens it to find a text message. It's only one sentence, but it makes him smile and tear up at the same time.
Don't worry Tony, we will be ok.
