Look, look! It's raining disclaimers!
A shining silver crescent hung in the sky, glowing with reflected light. The moon sat, nestled in its bed of stars. Vegeta frowned, unsure of what to make of it.
It had been almost three months since he had become a part of the Briefs' household, yet it was the first night he had stayed up late enough to see the moon.
"What are you doing up here at this time of night?" Bulma asked, stepping onto the roof.
"I was enjoying some peace and quiet by myselfuntil you showed up." He snarled. He didn't know why he said that; it wasn't true. Seeing the moon was disturbing him more than he'd like to admit, yes, but for some reason, lying to this fragile human made him feel guilty.
Bulma sniffed indignantly. "Well then, don't let me disturb your moping. Oops, I meant 'peace and quiet'." She turned and walked away, hips swaying tauntingly.
He watched her go, wishing vainly that he wasn't too proud to tell her to stop. But that would be weakness, admitting that he wanted her company. Her conversation. Her laughter. Her smile. Admitting that he wanted to see the way she flushed when she was angry. The way she smirked fearlessly when he threatened her.
Vegeta cursed to himself and sighed.
As soon as she said them, Bulma regretted her sharp words. Vegeta had looked almost wistful, staring at the sky like that. He had just seemed so… homesick. That was the word. Homesick.
She wondered where he was homesick for. She knew the Saiyan home planet had been destroyed, and if she had her timeline right, then Vegeta probably had few memories of it.
So was it space he longed for? Did he miss the black expanse pressing in on him? Or maybe the feeling of being utterly alone, of no one else being in the universe, even if the feeling was a false one?
Bulma stared her open window at the moon as Vegeta, a story above, stared with her.
Hope you enjoyed it! Equilibrium out!
