"See that girl? The dark-haired Slytherin firstie who always has her head in the clouds?"
"What about her?"
"I heard that she and Loony Xenophilius Lovegood are cousins."
"Xeno is a Prince?"
"His mother was, like her mother. Apparently, there's a curse on the Prince family, and they've had their magic repressed."
"But Lovegood and the girl are top of all their classes, despite that."
"Anyway, both of them are nuts. They go into the Forbidden Forest almost every day, and they mutter about things that don't even exist."
"I have no idea what Pandora Lethe sees in Lovegood."
"I have no idea why Lily Evans hangs around her."
"Lupin hangs around her to sometimes. They get on pretty well, but I think Lupin's lonely."
"Potter and his friends think him too swotty."
"Anyway, both the rejects go out into the Forest, and when they come back, they're covered in mud, leaves and twigs. Filch had a fit yesterday when they came back inside."
"Slughorn doesn't seem to mind, nor does Flitwick. Why should we?"
"That's the funny thing. None of the teachers care. Hell, even the Slytherins don't care that one of them traipses around like a Muggle child. In fact, when Potter insulted her, six Slytherins drew their wands on him and Black, and one of the girls threatened to castrate him if he mocked her in that way ever again. And some of the Hufflepuffs stood with the snakes as well. It was so weird."
"Hufflepuffs are all rejects anyway. Maybe they feel a kinship? Besides, Loony spends more time in Hufflepuff than in Ravenclaw."
"That's because they lock him out of his dorm."
"That's quite sad. He's perfectly harmless."
"Look! There she goes, walking into the Forest. Maybe we'll get lucky, and she'll get eaten by a werewolf."
"That's not very nice."
"Shut up. No one cares what you think! Do you think we should follow her?"
"Nah. It's not worth it. We can get her when she gets back. In the meantime, we should go get Lupin. He hasn't been picked on this week."
"True. Let's go!"

Green was her favourite colour. Blue was pretty high on her list, not pink like that hideous toad who came around to the Manor to 'investigate;' or to 'check up on' the week before she went to school. It was why she liked the forest; so many different greens. It was never the same every day. Similar, but not the same.
Like Xeno's eyes. One day, they were a stormy grey, and then they could be a vibrant blue, or a subtle amber. Remus' eyes were much the same, except they changed between leaf green and amber. She had nothing against the amber, but the green was preferable.
Grey was nice to. The fast grey that she liked to follow through the forests was always a challenge, but it was a nice, particular shade of grey that was both soft and hard at the same time. The grey always showed her new things, and found her new places to hide. The grey never judged.
A low, droning call sounded, and she stopped running, and walked forwards slowly. Pushing aside some branches (pine green, a very nice green), she strolled into the clearing, coming face to face with her friend. Or rather, face to nose.
The Thestral nickered at her, and rubbed its nose against her face. She giggled, and scratched the mare behind the ear, the silky mane slipping through her fingers like water, and the scent of rotting leaves and decay filled her senses.
.
She could do this, she supposed. In this peace and quiet.
.
She could pretend that everything was alright.
.
Just for a while.
