So some backstory is needed. Roy Harper and Garth Ranzz are two of my favorite DC Comics. One's a Titan, one's a Legionnaire. They're both scruffy redheads with some anger issues, and they're both very good parents. I don't ship them romantically because I'm more than content with Garth married to Imra Ardeen, but I'd like to consider the two could be very good friends and are comfortable enough in their sexuality that they act "shippy" sometimes to tease the other. Also, considering my little kink, I like to write and commission the two as heavyset.
A friend of mine is doing a couple of art commissions for me, and to help I wrote a couple of small pieces to help get the process going. This is another of my "drill sergeant Lian Harper" pieces, the kind I tend to do whenever I write Roy as a round guy. But I think this is the first time I've distinctly wrote something that had Roy, Garth, AND Lian together.
It felt nice to write one of these after so long.
"151… 152… 153… 15… 4…"
"You okay?"
"Yeah. I, I just, I need to take a breather."
A shrill whistling noise cut through the air.
"Ahh!"
"Hey!"
"I do not remember ordering a break!"
Roy Harper and Garth Ranzz looked over to see Roy's daughter, Lian, dressed in faux army togs, wearing a pair of thick sunglasses, and holding a clipboard, march over to the two adults. She held a whistle up to her lips and seemed to look down on the two disapprovingly. Garth was kneeling by Roy's side as Roy was focusing on doing some sit-up exercises, but was just about ready to drop from exhaustion.
The two had been working out nearly all day in Roy's backyard, with Lian acting in the role of "coach." She'd taken on this role in order to motivate her father into making sure he'd slimmed back down to his original size after he'd gained some weight recently (out of fear that it may have been damaging to his health). Garth, a recent friend of the adult Harper and one not exactly native to this… time period, had joined in for support while his wife and sons spent the day with a mutual friend. The two men looked similar, as both were tall, redheaded males with some scruff on their faces, although Garth was too inches taller than Roy. Added to this was that Roy's hair was rather short and he wore a small soul patch, while Garth's was rather longer but not considerably. Roy looked rounder and Garth a bit more muscular, although both weighed roughly the same amount. Garth was not as concerned about slimming down as Roy, but helped out nonetheless. Lian was considerably small compared to the two, and resembled her mother in terms of physical appearance, with black hair and brown eyes.
"Lian, I've been doing sit-ups for what feels like eternity. Maybe it's time we took a break?" Roy pleaded, wiping some sweat from his forehead. His red tank top was starting to stick to his chest, and his back was getting somewhat muddy.
"Nope, no can do." Lian shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Hon, sweetie, I appreciate you trying to help us get back into a more conventional shape, but you're kind of taking this a little overboard." Roy told her gently.
"We have a very strict schedule to adhere to and we will remain on schedule until I'm absolutely sure you're down to one chin again." Lian waved the clipboard in Roy's face. Garth noticed something odd out of the corner of his eye. "I tell you, I've been going over these numbers and they are not what they should be at ALL so now I think after your sit-ups are done, we'll be using the medicine ball."
"Lian, that's not a medicine ball. That's a bowling ball."
"Your point?" Lian asked.
"Wait, what did you write on here?" Garth asked.
"Hey!" Lian cried in surprise as Garth yanked the clipboard out of her hands and began to read what was written on it.
"Lian, this is just a list of superhero names you came up with on the spot." Garth read. "'Scarlet Arrow,' 'Tiger Arrow,' 'Jade Bow,' 'The Sparrow,' 'Robin VI?'"
"Robin?!" Roy was indignant, although Garth snickered.
"Well I have to keep my options open." Lian mused without any hint of shame before clearing her throat. "Now then, may I have my clipboard back? He still has fifty more sit-ups to do."
"…" Was the sole response from Garth AND Roy, who begun sharing conspiratorial glances.
"I'm sorry, may I please have my clipboard back?" Lian put extra stress on the word "please" thinking politeness was earning extra brownie points. "And besides, it's not as if you couldn't stand to lose some padding." Lian suspiciously eyed Garth's midsection before poking at it with her index finger.
What followed surprised two out of three of the people present.
"Wait, wait what are you doing? Hey. Hey!"
With a firm THUD Garth sat down on her on the grass. Roy burst out laughing as Lian angrily writhed on the ground.
"It's not funny!"
"Oh it's pretty funny!" Roy laughed again as he got up and brushed some blades of grass off his shorts.
"I think you earned yourself a break. Get yourself a snack and I'll be sure to keep an eye on Lian." Garth casually offered.
"GETOFFME!" Lian tried to push the other adult off her but to no avail.
"I think we've got some yogurt in the fridge, you want some?" Roy offered.
"Nah, but if you've got any fruit I wouldn't mind an apple or some water." Garth responded, completely indifferent to the struggles of the younger Harper.
"Will do." Roy said, and made his way into the house.
"Are you just gonna let him do this to your child?! Your scion?" Lian yelled as she blushed a deep shade of red, praying to every deity known to man that none of her friends could see her like this. She'd never live it down.
"You want anything honey?" Roy called from inside the house.
"This is a child abuse! I am a child and I am not being treated appropriately!"
"Love you too Etai Yazi!" Roy laughed.
Lian muttered something under her breath, and then deeply exhaled.
"…can I have some blueberry yogurt please?" Lian called back to her father.
"You want sprinkles?"
"Yes please."
"Can do."
"Thank you, daddy."
"Aww, you two are adorable." Garth gushed.
