I can't believe I turned into one of those miserable idiots who hate their jobs. Hiding in the department store opposite her hospital was not how she expected her life to be. It had all made sense in college, she was smart, she was caring and she hated boring jobs, and so being a doctor was what everything was pointing to. But now here she is, in the tampon section, hiding from her patients.
Oh ! Look there's a cute boy … maybe I should go talk to him, that's what normal girls do right?
"I haven't seen guys shopping in the tampon section before" she said in a teasing tone "Especially ones concentrating with as much as intensity as you." He turned towards her with a look relief striking through his hazel eyes, pushing up his glasses with his forefinger he asked "Do you think 20 boxes is enough, or should I buy more?"
"Well, unless you plan on stocking up for the end of the world I don't think you need that many."
He leaned on the shelves and arched his body towards her, okay he's flirting with me, "I feel like my world will end, if this really cute red head I met at the store won't go out with me" he said yup, definitely flirting. "Hmm…" she said pretending to mull over the proposal "Cute red heads don't usually go on dates with guys they don't even know the name of." With twinkling eyes he gave her a bow and said" fair lady, my name is James Potter." Laughter poured out of her at the sight of a man with unruly black hair and, a crinkled t-shirt giving her a bow that would make any victorian proud.
"So Potter, why have you come shopping for tampons?" she asked, her voice laced with amusement. "My sister's been admitted at the hospital across the road, the annoying nurse there told me to run down and get tampons" he said with a frustrated sigh "we've been there for like 2 hours and her doctor is still not there." She froze as she heard this news and reluctantly asked "You aren't by any chance waiting for Dr. Evans ?"
"Yeah we are, has she stood you up as well?" Oh yeah that Lily Evans, she's a disappointment to everyone. " No … nothing like that" she said, fidgeting with her hands, "she meets with a lot of patients, you know, maybe you should cut her some slack."
She could feel herself burn under his curious gaze. I guess I just found my motivation to go to work after all. He looked at her with confused eyes and crease forming between his eyebrows, "she's payed to see patients; she's a doctor." Lily could feel the guilt bubbling in her stomach, she eyed the door behind her sensing a much less joking argument arising. Hey at least this will be a great anecdote to say at our wedding. "So … whats your favourite colour?" she asked awkwardly trying to change the subject. James leaned forward trapping her between him and the shelves, and arched his eyebrow, in what she supposed was meant to be attractive, and said " Don't tell me fiery red heads like you are afraid of starting arguments with paralysingly handsome blokes."
"Potter I think you should buy those tampons and head back" she said urgently "I'm sure the doctors there by now." On that note she turned to leave the store only to be stopped by him grabbing her arm. "At least tell me your name before you leave me to fend for myself" he said with a charming grin. She gave a shaky laugh as her arm tensed under his grip, and the unattractiveness returns, "you know I have a feeling you'll see me soon enough." Before he could say anything back, Lily sprinted out the store, maybe I can somehow convince him that it was my evil twin at the store.
Author's Note: Reviews are appreciated and also do you think this is a one shot worth expanding into a fully fledged multi-chapter?
