This is inspired by "Moondance" by Michael Buble, though the original singer was Van Morrison
It seemed like it was a good time to post this up, went to some school dance and stuff afterall :P

The cool breeze of the autumn night was relaxing more than it was chilling.

It was similar to the cold nights back home in Suna.

Temari had forgotten why she was here, only that her brother was to attend some party here in Konoha, meaning Gaara's siblings would be coming along.

She didn't mind though, it was happening on a clear evening, with only the moon and the stars lighting up the night.

She had stepped out onto the balcony to admire the scenery, and Shikamaru had been looking for her.

"There she is," Kiba said, pointing to the the open balcony.

"Thanks, I'd better bring her back then."

Kiba grabbed his hand. "Are you an idiot?"

Shikamaru sighed. "What did I do?"

"It's what you're going to do, and that would be a big mistake."

He rolled his eyes. "Alright then, Kiba, what should I do?"

The young man smirked. "You see how she seems to be enjoying herself out there? Use that to your advantage to spend some alone time with her."

Shikamaru blushed slightly. "Hey, I never said I wanted to spend some alone time with her."

"But you obviously do," Kiba grinned. "Look just go over to her, have some peaceful talking, then move onto complimenting her and all that."

"For example?"

Kiba chuckled. "I knew you wanted to. Well, tell her something like, how the soft moonlight seems to shine in her blush, or that it would be a marvellous night for a dance, with the stars above her eyes."

Shikamaru blinked a couple of times. "That's stupid. If anyone's the idiot here, it's you."

Kiba laughed. "Alright, don't say that then. Just make sure that you stay out there, and everything should flow."

Shikamaru gave another sigh, before walking towards the girl. "Okay then. Later."

"Hey."

Temari turned around, seeing him approaching her. "Hey yourself, Cry baby."

Shikamaru smiled. "Aren't you cold out here, woman?"

She looked back out to the horizon. "Not really. It's nice out here, unlike the usually fairly humid days that are normally around."

"Fair enough."

"What about you? Aren't you cold?"

"Nah, it doesn't bother me."

"Oh."

They stood together in silence for a long time.

Until the music began to softly play in the background.

Shikamaru sighed softly, knowing that he was going to have to do it.

"This place would be a nice place for a dance, don't you think?"

Temari looked up. "A moon dance. Moving beneath the stars. How romantic," she smirked. "It isn't like you to suggest or want to dance."

Shikamaru looked at her. "I never said anything about us dancing, just that it would be a nice place to do so, woman."

"Maybe, but you haven't said anything about not wanting to."

"No, I guess I didn't."

They faced each other, slowly getting closer until his hands met her hips, and hers found his shoulders. Slowly, they began swaying to the beat of the music, moving around the leaf-covered balcony floor.

As the music stopped, they continued to move.

"Just so you know," he said softly, "this isn't something that will happen often. I'm just keeping you company to make sure that you're not alone."

The music began to play again.

"I know," she replied. "But can I just have one more dance?"

Shikamaru chuckled.

"I guess one more dance with you wouldn't hurt."

End.
